Promoted Listings-Update your Campaigns!

My sales, impressions had flatlined.

I remembered @nuclearomen telling us before to end them periodically.

So I did end all of mine last night - re-did them all and awoke to 11 orders between 2 accounts.  Sold 2 more today.

If you do PLs (standard anyway), go end those current campaigns and start ones.  You'll be glad you did!!

i don't know what adjustments ebay made with Promoted campaigns recently, but I ran from the previous quarterly update to this newest one on same campaign and did quite well in those 3-3 1/2 months, ended and started a new last week and sales have remained not great since update...i may redo it again soon, but views are all in the trash recently with ebay's change to view counts (which I said on other thread already is completely and totally not accurate!) - how the new change in view counts affect PLs - idk... time will tell(?) - all i know is it's a mess, like everything else ebay touches.

Re: Promoted Listings-Update your Campaigns!

When you told us to promote listings I listened to you & immediately did it.

Now my listings flat lined for a while & I just again did what you suggested & ended

all my promoted listings.

All ended.

How long keep them ended?

They did no good whatsoever last 2 weeks!

Had all promoted 5%.

Re: Promoted Listings-Update your Campaigns!

if your directing to me - I never told anyone to do anything - I've suggested through the years, others either take those suggestions or ignore them - others choose to make decisions on how they sell. Promoting Listing are not a guarantee that you will sell, sell more, or anything else. That all depends on what your selling, prices your asking, what your competitors are selling and what their prices are, how the "market" for said item is at any given time, the demand for that item, how ebay decides to show those promoted listings and when, how your listing appears to buyers, photos, policies, reputation, how many views did item get without being promoted, how many regular buyers one has etc...etc...etc...

When you end a campaign and start a new one, views/performance on new campaign can take while to build. If your flatlining on the PL graph and that flatline has existed for few days, likely need to end and redo a campaign - flatlining (as in views on Promoted will drop down and run near even with the Organic) is a good sign something isn't right. Most people who use PLs have experienced this at some point with ebay making changes usually at quarterly updates where they get some "great" idea and change something with Promoted Listings, or they change algorithms - usually ending campaign and creating a new one generally will improve the flatlining you you see on the graph.

As for How Long - I generally wait at least several hours when I end campaign before start new one, heard some say in the past they wait at least 24 hrs or more before creating a new campaign - i don't know if there is really a "standard" time one should wait but you cannot end and immediately create a new one as your listings won't load into it for selection immediately - takes a bit for all the listings in the old campaign to actually end (can see on seller hub - listings what listings have ended in the previous campaign) - it's likely good idea to wait a bit anyways before starting a new one, like said, I wait several hrs usually.

Still things come down to knowing your items and the market your fishing in - I can't tell you or others about your items/market cause I don't deal in them. I only speak in regards to my experience on ebay using promoted listings for my items/market that I've been involved in for 25 yrs. If you or anyone else feels like running a PL campaign (standard) is the right thing for you and your sales then by all means run a campaign, but the simple fact is it's not a guarantee - nice thing is cost you nothing unless listing sells on the PL.

As for general to PL's (not directed to you specifically, just a general for all)

Promoting all listings at a higher or ebays "suggested" rate or more means nothing to promoting all listings at a lower percentage... there is again, no guarantee that promoting listings at a higher percentage will perform better then electing less. There is also no guarantee that electing ALL your listings into campaign will raise sales vs electing a percentage of your listings into campaign.

All this isn't directed to you specifically, it's more a recap for everyone to keep in mind - entering into a PL campaign doesn't mean you will sell more or less, it simply means you elected a percentage and if the item sells on that PL ebay gets more money for the sale. Yes the idea is to gain your listings more "exposure" but in all truth if no one is searching for those items, if the demand for those items are generally low, Promoting listings may not have any effect at all.

I can say that Inflation has certainly affected sales in some categories, when people need to choice between item or gas to get to work or food for the week etc... most likely many will choose the others over your item - i would too.

@nuclearomen

Sorry your sales have not returned.

Our PLs (standard) have jump-started again after ending and starting new campaigns.

@jewelbiz

I end a campaign - wait a couple of hours, start new one(s).  Good luck!

I'm selling just at a lesser amount then was pre-quarterly update. Sales went from 2-4 a day to 1-2 every few days... this experience has been every quarter update ebay has done in past 3-4 years, tinker with stuff and eventually your sales return, ride it for a bit, then ebay changes things again...the aggravation cycle.

Re: Promoted Listings-Update your Campaigns!

I have always ran campaigns for 7 to 10 days and create new ones when they end.

I never liked the 'continuous' thing.

Re: Promoted Listings-Update your Campaigns!

I've always done this (just of my own accord, never saw that anyone suggested it), from day 1 & it does seem to help.  I usually wait about 1  1/2 days before I start a new one.

Re: Promoted Listings-Update your Campaigns!

Mr. Katzrul15 & Mr. Nuclearoman,

Thank you for the tip here on this seller board to end one’s PL listings & reset them anew.

I just promoted approximately 40 of my listings that I ended yesterday.

Let us now see if there is any difference & hopefully sales…

You are welcome.  I am not a Mr Kat, but rather a Mrs Kat, but it is all good.  LOL

Hope your sales rocket!

Re: Promoted Listings-Update your Campaigns!

I just did it, too, but I put everything on at a low promo rate - I waited a few hours, hopefully that was long enough.  My last campaign was started in September 2021 lol - I guess I'm due for a refresh (though things were still selling on the old campaign).

Sept 2021?  That has been a while!!

Hope it helps.  Seems to be pushing our momentum again.  Which is good!

Re: Promoted Listings-Update your Campaigns!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has realized this.  What I do is end my campaign and start a new one weekly.  Typically on Wednesdays.  I’ll end the campaign Wednesday morning, wait a few hours, then start a new campaign.  That tends to keep things steady to awesome for me sales-wise. 👍🏻👍🏻
