How does the "promote listing" service work? How do they promote the listing?
And what does the "ad rate" mean? Like 4.2% ad rate.
Thanks

The suggested rate is chosen by eBay for their best results.
Theirs.
Not yours.
EBay is your landlord, not your friend.
I use PL and like it, but I never pay more than one percent.

The link has already been posted but I can tell you from looking at eBay's quarterly reports it works VERY well for EBay. Huge revenue for them additional cost for the seller.

What is "PL"?
Also, if it works for ebay, doesn't it also work for the seller? Selling is good for the seller also.
Or does it just give ebay more fees and doesn't really promote the listing?
Anyway, I'd like to know in what way the listing gets promoted. I'll take a look at the link. Maybe it describes this there.
Thanks.

You're basically allowing Ebay to take everything from you by using promoted listings. When I have it set at 2.5%, they take 7.5%(on top of the 12.55%). They also decide what sales were sold via promoted listings.
I was messaging with someone and sent them a link to a particular item to buy. They purchased it, and Ebay called it a "Promoted Listing" and took their 20%. I got credited back the 7.5% after an hour long argument showing them the message and how I was responsible for the sale and not promoted listings.
Ebay wants full control of every penny that runs through the site. They are like that game with marbles and pigs.
BUT, if you don't promote your listings, they will rarely be seen.
Just my experience. And you must promote at.......at least the suggested rate.
