I'm running a couple of promotions to test, because I have had no luck with them in the past.
It says you will not be charged the promotion fee if it doesn't sell on promotion, but how would we know the difference. Is it because I see 2 listings, 1 sponsored and 1 not? If they buy from the reg listing and not the sponsored no fee is charged? Is that how that works?

Hi Tweety! I have looked and looked and as far as I can tell we won`t know the difference and must take ebays word. You are right though....if the potential buyer clicks on the sponsored ad and makes a purchase thru it, then you are charged the additional FVF. In some cases, you can be charged even after your promotion has ended so long as that buyer found your item thru promos. An example would be: if I clicked on your sponsored listing and put it in my watch list to purchase at a later date and eventually made the purchase.

Thank you, you are always so helpful.
Do you remember my sweater story? Still haven't heard from her. I have the thread open, because I'm waiting to see if she contacts me That way I can update everyone.

Hi, joining the conversation late, but this is something I've been looking into.
Ebay describes when it charges the promotional fess in the help pages, https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/listing-and-marketing/promoted-listings.html and documents linked there to.
I don't have time to find the specific quote in all that verbage but it is there.
Two things stun me
1) in order to administer the fee as claimed, ebay has to be keeping the browsing history of each and every promoted listing for 30 days. That is alot of data. If I click a promotion, and go back 30 days later and buy it, even if I get there directly, not through the promotion, you'll pay the fee.
2) who trusts ebay is doing this!

Ebay gives me a $30 credit every quarter with my store subscription so I use it. I do seem to sell more because of it and the credit has always pretty much covered the cost but I set it at a very low percentage. If I didn`t get the credit I probably would not use promotions.
I end all my listings every 30 days even though I have most set for good till cancelled. Ending the listing breaks the promo. I then decide if I want to re-promote.
