Promo Sales - What's the point?

I am running a BOGO sale promo and not only can a buyer not tell from search results, but even clicking into the listing the promo banner is WAY down the bottom.

I can't even BEGIN to understand how they think this is 'helpful' for driving sales.

Promo Sales - What's the point?

100% agree. Anything other than markdowns (which show the discounted price in search results), are essentially hidden from most buyers, since a small percentage scroll to the bottom.

Ebay doesn't want to talk about it either. Myself and others have brought it up in the weekly chat and here on the boards, and besides the initial canned response from @Anonymous any references to this issue go ignored. Several asked about it for Bob's live broadcast yesterday, but it went ignored there, too.

Apparently Ebay thinks it's better for sales when they show buyers the store sales paper after they've already bought their stuff, paid and are exiting the building.

News flash - buyers will generally buy MORE stuff when they know about a sale BEFORE they leave the store, not after.  Duh unamused

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

It's ignorant. I liked the old Markdown Manager better, even though there weren't as many promo types. This new Promo manger has been almost useless to me. I think I have had 3 sales since last summer from one of these "promos". Next to useless.

"Fitts Law."

It's long but a good read. In essence it says that the law is based on simple common sense. The bigger an object and the closer it is to us, the easier it is to move to. The quicker you can reach said object, the more convenient and easy it is to use (or view in the case of the promo banner) resulting in a more positive experience for the buyer.

But ebay has been defying most common sense laws, particularly this year.  A know-best company who still after 21 years has not figured out their own brand or identity. Just constantly throwing random things at the wall with very little sticking and copying every johnny-come-lately idea that comes along.

Well I won't be running any more of their "promotions manager" promos until they change it back.

At least the mark downs show up in search.

Hi @hioctane62, I apologize if I wasn't able to address your question in detail! I can confirm that this change is an intentional change and not a site issue - we tested this out last year and found that by moving the promotional banner lower in the listing there was a corresponding increase to sales for those sellers. This may be due to potential buyers scrolling down to the description to review details without seeing the banner near the top. I've passed along feedback about this change and confirmed in the Community that we keep a close eye on adjustments like this to ensure there is no negative impact. As I'm sure you can understand, we do not benefit from any changes that result in reduced sales for our sellers and would make appropriate changes if this led to a loss in sales. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to let me know!

Thanks for the respose Trinton. Basically what you said before.

I wish ebay would concentrate on fixing what's broken instead of trying to adjust what already works right.

All I know is that since the change I hardly have any promos that result in sales while they're running,. and that's NOT normal.

trinton@ebay

Can you or anyone at ebay explain how y'all separate causality events/sales from mere correlation events/sales, specifically concerning placement of the promotion banner?

Welcome to the "new" normal?????  Plenty of things around here don't make sense, but they become normal.  Just wait a while and it will become 'real' normal.

Another reference to a past 'test' with no specifics on when, where or how it was conducted or who participated.

OK kids, time to get the Dodge loaded up again. I hear 'Poppy's By the Tree' calling. This trip might be a long one too.

What's a promotional banner?

I've never seen one. I see ebay promotions for Chinese sellers. I see ads for car insurance and cell phone providers.

What do they look like?

Is it because I'm on  a phone that I can't see them?

It was just a banner at the top of your listing that said BOGO or 35% off xx (or whatever your promo was).

On your phone it's not a "banner" it's a line in red below the watch button (and fwiw it's kinda useless as rather than a button that says see all items or something there's just a blue arrow).
