Problem With Buyer

I have a 100% rating with eBay with almost 70 transaction.  I recently sold an original Apple Watch with a charging dock.  It went via USPS Priority mail and I have the receipt and the tracking number.  The buyer says he received the package today but it included some kind of cheap remote control instead of the watch and dock.  I know what I sent and it is impossible for his claim to be true.  I have reprted this to eBay and he will be filing a complaint today.  Since this is the first time I have encountered this, what will eBay do?

They'll probably force to you to refund if he opens a case. If he's pulling a fast one on you, you might be able to twart his attempt by expressing your complete shock & telling him you've filed theft reports with his local police and his local post master & tell him to expect them to contact him for help with their investigation.

Just a side thought....did you ship to a forwarding service by any chance?

Problem With Buyer

Hi, ebay's response will depend on what kind of case the buyer opens. If they open an Item Not Received case, you will upload the tracking number into the case and ebay would then close it in your favor as you have proof of delivery. However, if the buyer opens a Not As Described case (which would be the better choice for the buyer), then it is likely that ebay will side with him and force you to refund, as the other poster advised. This is not unusual, ebay finds for the buyer 90% of the time. I would do what the other member recommended and file the lost or stolen mail report. Although far-fetched, it is not impossible the items were switched enroute. Or in other words, do not let on to the customer that you believe they are lying. Instead, you act on the buyer's behalf to locate the "missing" items and show your concern.

Tell you too bad, so sad....and will likely include "PART OF DOING BUSINESS ON THE NET" to add some salt to the wound you are going to get when they snag your money and give it back to the buyer.

I understand that eBay sides with the buyer so often. But how do they force me to refund the money?

Ask the buyer if he may have mixed you up with another seller.

Tell him that you have never had in your possession what he claims he received.

And yes put a scare in him saying you will be filing a police report and a claim with the carrier as tampering with the mail is a Federal offense.

It may scare him away.

But if he does file SNAD, then you will be forced to send him a return postage label and refund his money.

And if you do not ebay will just take the money out of your account and do it for you.  And if there is no money in there your account will go in the red and they will pursue you or it.
