Guys,
Hoping that someone here can help me with this one... I recently sold a car part to a fellow in New Zealand and he had me ship it to some location in Erlanger, KY relater to eBay's global shipping program. He emailed yesterday claiming that I sent a completely different part from what he bought. I have asked three times now for him to please send me pictures of the item that he claims to have received because I am positive that he was sent the correct item. The reason I am so certain he was sent the correct item is because I had two of the same part listed at the same time, only one was missing a small spring, so I was extra cautious when I pulled it from inventory to be sure I didn't send the wrong one. I also remember having a discussion with my son who was boxing the items as to what size box he should use to be sure it didn't get damaged. I could not be more certain that he was shipped the correct part.
So what recourse do I have in this situation? Here's a guy half way around the world claiming that I sent him something completely different that what he bought, and so far won't send me pictures of what he claimed to have received. How do I prevent this from turning into bad feedback or a claim with PayPal?
Thanks,
Ryland Relics

Well if you are communicating through your email address you can continue to ask for pictures.
If the buyer is communicating through the eBay message system eventually he will probably open a not as described case which means you can either
Not much you can do to force the buyer to provide pictures, and it turns into a seller said / buyer said situation.
If you send the buyer a return shipping label and there is nothing wrong with the item you can file an appeal against the return shipping cost and eBay will look at all the details including any picture you upload to the appeal and make a decision about crediting you back the return shipping costs.
I wish I had better advice for you but this is one of the areas all of us deal with regardless if it is an online purchase or one made from a local B&M store.
Good Luck Selling!

Let me guess....... Headlight bucket?

I would respectfully suggest that feedback is the least of your worries here. Feedback no longer counts against your seller rating.
I take it your buyer has not filed any sort of "case" yet, but rather just messaged you?
If they file a SNAD claim, you will have to accept the return and send money in advance to pay for return shipping. As always, it won't matter what is in the parcel sent back. You will be refunding anyway.
You would be much better off if a case is filed through PayPal instead. With PayPal, the buyer has to send the item back on their dime in order to get a refund.
The only good thing about using the GSP to Erlanger is you would be protected from INR claims or items damaged in shipment. Phony SNADS are alive and well in the Global shipping program as usual.
Often times, for an ebay claim of this nature, it is much less expensive for you to just let the buyer keep it for free and refund as well. Lot of this going around lately as well.

It's now 9:30am Tuesday in New Zealand. Maybe he'll reply soon. The buyer didn't have you send it to Kentucky, ebay did as required by your participation in the global shipping program. They often do repackage items, and have been known to mix up items.
Other than that, everything @goodluckselling stated above still holds true. Hopefully you will hear from them before they open a case.

I'm thinking turn signal switch. Wonder if either is correct.

A USA seller isn't going to be able to purchase a international shipping label. Thats a old ebay wives tale. They can however get a estimate from the buyer as to return postage with tracking and insurance from their country back to the USA seller at which time sellers sends them a paypal for goods and services for that amount and if nothing is returned seller can file a claim with paypal for a refund. If anything is returned the case will be closed...

It’s not an eBay wives tale. The OP can purchase a label outside of eBay. Through UPS, DHL and FedEx. He might even be able to get one through NZ Post.

I selected headlight bucket because the replacement spring is $2.95. I can't imagine the hugemanatee a buyer would be dealing with looking at a monetary loss like that...

Sure they can purchase a label through any one of those services if they want to cough up a couple hundred bucks...

Neither a turn signal switch or a headlight bucket. It was a heater control valve, part number B7A-128502-B. This is a cable operated valve, as were all of them on 1957 Fords, and I had two of them listed. One was missing a small spring that could be robbed off of your old valve, so I had that one listed at a cheaper price than the one this fellow purchased. He's claiming that I sent him some kind of vacuum operated valve but has yet to provide me any pictures of this supposed valve.
As to someone else's comment, I was wondering if the place in Erlanger reboxes te items we send there. If they do, I suppose that's where it could have gotten mixed up, but it seems unlikely.
Thanks for the replies.

We were both wrong.... If they haven't opened a dispute yet all you can do is wait for that to happen or if you believe they are telling the truth you can allow them to keep the item and just refund.

They do rebox things. It could have gotten mixed up there.

Which reiterates the need for the OP to see at least one picture of what the buyer says they received. I'm starting to lean toward the likelihood that this buyer has played this game before, and knows how expensive and difficult it would be for the OP to get their item back. They are playing for the refund and the item.

So my new Kiwi friend just messaged me to say that the valve he has is actually one that his son in Australia ordered for him, and that he hasn't received mine yet. Go figure! 😕
Thanks again to everyone who replied!
