Possible scam?

I sold a set of glasses a few days ago, the customer contacted me today claiming that one of the glasses was broken when they arrived. The customer didn't attach any photos at first, I sent them a refund for the items and asked for photos. The items clearly aren't the ones that I sold them. Is there any way I can get my money back, I obviously learned a lesson and won't send any refunds without photos first again.

Sorry, no, you can't get the money back.

Have a great day.

The only thing I can think of is that you can tell the buyer that the photo that they sent you was not of the glasses that you sold to them, and to please return the money via PayPal.

But, I wouldn't do that.  I can't imagine that such a request would go over well with the buyer, and you would be setting yourself up for a negative feedback.

@orangehound

Actually, as a buyer, if I accidently contacted or filed against the wrong seller, I would want to know. I would pay them back.

As a seller, I never lived in fear of a red donut, and conducted business and made decisions accordingly.

@sukov-21  could get a red donut anyway, but it would not be as bad if he/she got their money back.

Re: Possible scam?

Hi @sukov-21 Sorry for your situation. You did right by the buyer, though a bit hasty to refund. Think the buyer was just confused rather than dishonest.

Did the buyer request the refund through official channels or just in Messages? Did you suggest they open a return request?

I see nothing wrong,  now that you have discovered the buyer’s mistake, to write them a polite note with a copy of your glasses listing to see if a dialogue can be re-opened. If it can, see if the buyer is amenable to reimbursing you.

If you refunded in full, depending on the amount, i would have sent a shipping label to have the undamaged goods returned.

(Fyi: eBay does not require buyers to prove their veracity by providing evidence like photos (when a case is opened), so it’s not likely it would expect them to do so outside of a case or request for refund.)
