Possible scam???

I have been posting a few things today and had some quick sales.  A buyer sent a message asking if I had any similar items.  I message back with  a list of things I was about to post.  He liked them and asked if I post and let him know when posted and he will buy.  After posting I message him with order number he checks and it was already purchased buy another person (this was all within minutes).  The posting included only 1 picture of a damaged area of one of the books in the lot and really something a person surfing the postings would skip.

I cancelled the purchase.  With ebays new payment system Im suspecting problems with my checking account if they take out this canceled payment (though I haven't yet received the money from ebay) from my account. Also I am very concerned with a buyer paying $75 + shpng for a poor post.

Am i screwed?

Re: Possible scam???

I think you jumped the gun. You can set up alerts on Ebay. Anytime one of those items is listed the buyer will get an alert and get a jump on the casual browser. I have had items bought a few minutes after listing. Did the buyer have red flag feedback?

Re: Possible scam???

I don't see a scam. I see lost a sale and maybe an irritated buyer. What was the concern for a buyer paying your asking price?

@skate_man1000

Are those alerts available on the desktop version? The only thing I currently have set up are "saved searches" and "saved sellers," and I get an email only once a day--they're there when I check my email in the morning, and I don't get any more throughout the day.

I'd love to be able to set up alerts like the ones you've described. Do you have a link for where I can set that up? TIA!

Re: Possible scam???

I had saved searches in my account and selected to be notified when a item is available.  The stuff I am looking for will rarely come up for sale.  But when it does I either Buy It Now if price is ok or I bid a very good price on it.

Not necessarily a scam because someone buys it right away.

If I am making a special listing for someone I will list the item very high with Make Offer.  They will make offer for price we agreed on and I sell it.  This makes sure no one else jumps on it first.

Re: Possible scam???

I am using a Desktop with Windows 10 and Google Chrome Browser.

I only save a search with email notification for something I am ready to purchase and they do not come up for sale very often.  It could be a year or longer before something pops up.  I am only emailed when a Item is available.

If you are receiving daily emails perhaps the items you are searching are more abundant therefore you get daily notifications?

Go to you Saved Searches and you can turn the Email Notification On and Off.

When you initially save a search it is default to send eMails.

I have received email notifications at various times of the day.  I once received one at 03:00 A.M.

Re: Possible scam???

What kind of "red flag feedback" could a buyer have, since buyers can only be given positive feedack?
