Possible feedback extortion with another buyer trick

Buyer is possibly fishing for a partial refund but I believe he knows the game and emailed me at my personal email address that he probably got from the PP transaction.  I replied I would be happy to discuss this matter with him, but please only contact me through the ebay server'.

"You have been clear, also, about my right to return the whole thing to you
for a complete refund.  However, that isn't what I want to do, and so I've
reached the end of what I have any power to do through our eBay transaction.
I will likely initiate PayPal's Resolution Center process at the beginning of next week"

The more you sell the more problems you encounter.

BTW I do not get updates on the replies, I have to manually check,  they do not go to my spam folder I just don't get them

I'd reply: "Return for refund"

Repeat as necessary.

I don't see where feedback is even threatened so there is no feedback extortion. Let the buyer contact Paypal - again say return for refund - they are not going to just give the buyer a partial.

Cut and paste your buyer's messages and reply to them in an eBay message.

I agree with tunica; this isn't feedback extortion but I think I know what you meant.   And it's not even a new trick.

Yes, buyer is fishing for a partial.  What reason did the buyer use?

Does paypal make the buyer pay for return shipping or has that changed to seller pays if some type of SNAD is filed?

If they return through Paypal, THEY have to pay the shipping no matter the reason. Paypal won't entertain a partial, it's all or nothing. They're  keeping it away from Ebay for a reason.

RETURN FOR REFUND. Say it once and don't say anything else.

If you have already told the buyer "return for refund," do nothing more at all but approve the return if that is not done automatically, and refund if you get the item back.  Don't waste another second on this.

List more, sell more. Goodwill that other, uh, stuff.

Feeling sleepy? There's an app for that.

Ah, thanks sweet*tea.  I was going to tell OP that hopefully the buyer files through paypal and then sees the return shipping is on her/him the buyer, but I wasn't sure if that rule had changed.

This^^^ is the best way to handle when answering *return for refund*

Then the messages will be within the ebay system if ever needed.

If he opens a PP case, he would be paying return shipping.

He is clearly fishing for a partial refund, but he threatened you with a PayPal claim not feedback.

IMHO there is no possible way to interpret that as feedback extortion as you title impies.

If you want to be snarky, you could always reply, you're welcome to file a claim on PayPal and pay to return it to me = )

Or maybe not LOL

This is a partial refund fisher, not FB extortion, although I don't doubt they'll leave a less than positive once they see they you won't play the game.

Possible feedback extortion with another buyer trick

I interpreted the message from the buyer differently. While they are clearly fishing for a partial refund, I thought that they were more likely threatening a charge back, without actually coming out and directly saying so.  At least, I would keep that possibiity in mind.

But wow--how pushy, threatening, and rude--not to mention, totally entitled--and also kind of scary that they contacted you through your personal email. They sound like they (think) they are being clever. I would be very cautious of this buyer, it sounds like they are doing something here that they might have done before with success.

The first thing I would do is hit the "Report this Buyer" button so at least it is on record that they refuse to open a return, but still want a refund. Whenever I have called CS for help they can always see that I reported the buyer, and it definitely seems to help me with any issues. If other sellers have also reported them, that also helps.

Is there any way you can engage them more on eBay messaging? Just copy and paste what they wrote to you privately, and ask them directly what they mean? In a professional and polite tone--maybe even act like you want to do what they want, but you don't know exactly what that is....see what I'm saying here? Ask them to clarify how they think Paypal can help them better than you (or eBay) can.  In my experience, people are rarely as clever as they think they are....

You really need to figure out exactly what their end game is here, before you even begin to try and fight. I am also very interested to know what this buyer's game is, as this is a new one on me--either they really know what they are doing, or they are just making threats hoping that you cave--you need to figure out which it is--the only way I can think to do that, is to try and ask them.

I would think if they are knowledgeable about what they are doing, you won't get anywhere with messages--because an honest person won't have any issues with explaining themselves--a scammer will be sneaky and as evasive as possible. I don't know...but you have every reason to be nervous here I think--scary stuff--good luck.

I'll wait to see what he does.

I do like 'cut and paste his response and reply though ebay server'

Yes, I see he gives everyone negs or false positives.

Not sure what his plan with Paypal is because they will make him pay return shipping.

I have no problem refunding if he returns it.

The whole story is that it is box set CD.  The box that holds the set is damaged.  I took pictures of every side of the box and described every detail of the damage and every detail of the disks but then screwed up and listed it as 'Like New'.  So the buyer states that he agrees that he saw the damage and said I correctly described everything but since it is not 'Like New' he deserves some compensation.  He is contradicting himself and asking for money.  I only offered full refund and return shipping

screwed up and listed it as 'Like New"

eBay sellers sure know how to mountainize their molehills.

Of course the buyer is fishing for a partial refund: he wants the item, but would have bid/paid less had the description been accurate.

The seller is entitled to cling to the "return for refund" mantra - even if it's foolish to do so - but there's nothing wrong with the buyer's request.

Ah, that bit is unfortunate. Seems like this buyer is possibly one who goes out of his way to look for loopholes in listings.

Perhaps he is fishing for a partial first and if he doesn't get it he'll file a SNAD and return an empty package to you? I really hope that is not the case. I hope this buyer is just ignorant and once he learnes he'll have to pay return shipping by opening the case in Paypal he'll just forget about it and move on.

I'm sure this goes without saying but be sure you block them and I'd definitely report them.

Replying inside the ebay messaging system with their message copy/pasted does seem like a good idea to try to protect yourself from an impending doom scenario.

I wish you the best of luck with this scummy buyer!
