eBay should give sellers the option of changing the auto-generated message that goes with sent offers to read, "Here's your chance to get this item at a not-so-great price!"

Inflated item prices by some sellers likely have & likely will continue to turn away some buyers from shopping on ebay.

I always edit that message; it's a good opportunity to send a message and state why your offer is a good one 🙂

I suggested that when it first came out.  I also suggested that maybe they leave the message blank or remember the last message you sent.  Unfortunately nothing has changed and I have to delete the auto generated message every time I send an offer out.  It is very very annoying.

"Here's your chance to get this item that countless other buyers have passed on!"

I have custom messages set up so I just have to cut and paste the right one into the field....one of items already on sale, one for regular priced, one for items with free shipping, one for items with free shipping and already on sale.  Seems like most buyers can't read listings so I feel the need to spell it out for them! lol

You can edit it.  Just delete what is there and write what you want.  Been doing it for years.

@hartungcards  I gather you've received many offers that you felt were insufficiently discounted. So I'm wondering----what is the minimum percentage that you would consider a worthwhile discount?

Yeah saving a new default message could be nice.  An easier way until then is just have several mesages you may want to use depending, in a word or text doc, and just cut and paste over their generic message.

I think he might know that already.

I suppose the minimum percentage most people consider a "worthwhile discount" depends greatly upon how reasonable or inflated the price is to begin with. A reasonably priced item, any EBay acceptable (minimum set) discount is probably worthwhile. However items marked at 2x realistic value, a $50 item listed at $100... when a seller sends 10% off, ($90) the item is still 80% above a "reasonable" price.

Be different if the discount was 10% off if the item was listed at $50 or so.

Could you pass on this useful suggestion- that sellers be able to store their own words in those automatic messages with Offers?
I'd like to have the same opportunity with Feedback.

Have you ever spent any time with your Site Preferences.  Specifically the section for Buyer Communications.  You might just find that of some interest.
