Possible Fraudulent Purchase

I have a buyer who has a shipping address, both in EBAY and PayPal of Inglewood, California...

But the buyer is pretty adamant about getting it shipped NEXT DAY EXPRESS   (I usually only offer USPS PRIORITY) to Warren, Michigan...

I want to look at buyer's feedback, but I can't figure how...

What are the possibilities here??  I don't want to make waves and offend a buyer but I also don't want to aid someone who may have hacked someone else's account..

Any assistance would be most appreciated...

Are they willing to pay for overnight delivery?

And what's the item? If it's high scam target stuff, I wouldn't.

Is your buyer asking if you could ship this way before they buy? Or has the buyer purchased your item and is NOW making this request?

If the former (and you are willing), you can revise the listing for the buyer.

If the latter, you can cancel the transaction as 'Problem with buyer's address'. If you are willing... you can relist for them. ONLY ship to the address on the eBay order.

1.) Next day still has issues and are not guaranteed due to CV19

2.) Next Day costs about 4x more than Priority

3.) Do you have 'next day' already set up in your listing?

4.) Has buyer already paid?

5.) Is this a 'buy it now' or an 'auction'?

6.) There is no 'next day' with USPS- only 2 day currently, unless you get it to PO by 10am- which you won't.

If they already paid, you would have to cancel, relist with the overnight cost and have buyer repurchase.

Bottom line, if buyer is still potential and the 'auction' is still going, I would just tell them 'you don't do overnight'.

If auction is done I would tell buyer 'after the auction is over is not the time to ask about different shipping that what is on the listing- therefore I cannot abide'

Wanting to send an item via a faster method is not out of the ordinary. If they are willing to pay the extra postage, then I would accommodate the buyer as long as you are sending it to the address of record, you are ok to ship. Did they bring this up after the sale or before?

Make sure it's the actual buyer who's messaging you. Make sure the IDs match. If they don't, it's definitely a scam.

If they do match, tell the buyer that next day express is no longer guaranteed. Depending on where you live, next day may not even be available. Where I live it isn't.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Yea, the item has been purchased.  And the Buyer is willing to cover the extra expense for next day..

So, all things being equal, I am on solid ground..

Thanx for the advice...

It's a SONY Main Board for a SONY TV...  I sell TV Parts at rock bottom prices...

Here is an example of another seller's exact same item..

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-65-XBR65W900C-XBR55W900C-Main-Board-p-n-1-894-595-12-For-Part-or-Repai...

It's only  $22 so the money isn't really an issue..  Just don't want to perpetuate a fraud if that is what this is.. I can't think of any legit reason why the 2 addresses would be so different..

With me,  I sometimes have things shipped to work instead of home.. But it's all the same county..

I can't fathom a legit reason why someone would be in California and want something shipped to Michigan

Thanx for your input....

Shipping to an address that's different from the one tied to the payment means you forfeit all seller protection for item not received claims.

If the ID that messaged you asking for the change is the same ID as your buyer's then let them know eBay requires you to ship to the address on the order and you can cancel the transaction if they need to change the address. As said above- Express isn't guaranteed right now.

If the ID that messaged you doesn't match your buyer's ID then don't respond- and add them to your blocked bidder list.

Did the buyer select/pay for express shipping?

Was that an option you offered in the listing?

What does that mean? Is the buyer asking to change the ship-to address from Inglewood, California to Warren Michigan? You would lose seller protection if that is the case and the MI address in not on file. Or am I misunderstanding?

I do that all the time when I have stuff shipped to family members scattered across the country. So far I've always remembered to put the correct address at checkout- but we're all human and mistakes happen.

WOW.. So much input.. Thanx guys..

Yes, the item has been purchased and paid for with PRIORITY SHIPPING..

Good Point that there really isn't any overnight with C-19...

The differences in addresses was never mentioned..  I started the process of printing a label to get the buyer's address..  It was then I noticed that his EBAY/PAYPAL address is Inglewood, CA but he EBAY messaged me and said he wanted overnight to Warren, Michigan..  That got my spidey-sense tingling..  Usually when a buyer is "hurry up, hurry up, ship.." it's an indication of something not being on the level..

I wanted to look at his feedback but I can't remember how.. It's been years since I actually sold anything.. If he has no feedback for a year or more, that could indicate an abandoned account that's been hacked...

Again.. Thanx for all the assist..  I don't want to go thru official EBAY unless I am 100% certain of my facts...

With the low price fraud is not as likely.  They may be purchasing for a relative or using you as a drop shipper to send a "replacement" part to a buyer.

Notify the buyer that eBay and Paypal require you to ship to the address on the order.  If they still want the item, you will cancel the sale and they can repurchase with the correct address on the order.  Don't change the address on the order yourself as you lose all protection, even at $22 it's not worth it.

It happens - Ive had more than couple of folks ask for FedEx overnight -- like my $3 First Class charge will cover that.  Uh no. I send it to the address they used to register with Ebay and the one confirmed in Paypal.  I also don't forward to international addresses. I ship it to the US address and leave it to the buyer to ship it abroad.
