Hello all,
Full time seller for 12 years, store with over 7800 items. Vintage Jewelry only.
I am not usually a gloom and doom kinda gal but eBay is really screwing with the seller model for small sellers. Kinda concerned they are going to tank my business.
I usually sell 2 to 10 items a day. This week I have had five days with no sales. This lack of sales has coincided with a new promotional tool. The ability to “ promote” your business with a pop up that appears on your fellow sellers store page. This takes your buyers away to another store.
The pop up on my page was for fine jewelry diamonds. eBay is telling me I too can have this great promotional tool for $30 a day.
Honestly, I will got my already low price points down further before I will pay a corporation more money. What seller can afford more money to eBay?
Thoughts?

When other sellers promote their stores or listings, those stores or listings will show up in other sellers listings that are comparable or in the same category. Those sellers are paying up the wazoo for that.

Paying up the wazoo or not I still think is completely Wrong to offer this as beckenviro noted this can really mess with your own sales & is not something sellers asked for!, Have you ever seen a sign outside a Target sending you to Walmart or vice versa?, NO

This is likely far less of a deal than you think it is. Almost no customers visit the store pages. They search for items and buy them one at a time. They might hit "Sellers other items" or even click on your name, but both of those bring them to the search showing only your items, they actually have to work to find the store page.

eBay has forgotten to monetize the right and left margins. Oh dear.

Ebay pays no respect to ANY ONE SELLER on here. It’s the way this website works or does not work at times. The overall number of sales is what counts and that has been declining for years on here and the sellers that pay ebay 30 dollars a day may or may not get the sales either. But ebay will collect their fees for this promotion. They are in business to make money, and we do as well, but no favorites for sure on here.

If your price points are better than the 30 dollar a day pop up, YOU WILL GET THE SALE, NOT THEM.

IT’S NOT YOUR WEEK TO MAKE A SALE, for WHATEVER reason, not just your competitors pop up. I wonder if they are sitting behind their computer thinking. GEEZ, i pay Ebay 30 dollars a day and this week our sales have tanked.

Oh yes, and that is still no 100 percent sure way that it’s gonna sell. It depends on many other factors. People shopping on here are not saying to themselves, “I must click this add”.

But WOW, wHAT IF ebay MADE IT A REQUIREMENT FOR buyers to click ads to buy. Whoooo that would make extra cash.

Some seller CAN afford to pay ebay more depending on the acquisition price of the goods and the volume they have. It works for them.

WELL, most of the time you are probably right, and then the times you are wrong they WILL go to the pop up and that seller has a chance as well to make that sale.

I get 4 days with domestic only buyers...and then like 3 days with 2-3 international buyers.....in a whole week.
Very rare I get both domestic and international buyers on the same day. This is my pattern or ebay's algorithm.
When I see 'no sales' in a day I know it's an international only day where I might get a few international buyers in 2-3 days.
My scary thing this week...I am on international sales with eBay's algorithms this week ...got a few buyers from Brazil...and nothing else...I usually never got buyers from Brazil.
Pop up competitors...I don't think eBay doesn't understand(the young ones who work there)this.
If we sellers lower are prices with the competitors...eBay make less in fees because we lower our items for sale. And yes...I have lower my prices under competitors.
It seems a lot of sellers are doing major promoting...above 12%....
I can't lower my prices plus promote high...it's a no win for me the seller.
I have to come up with unique items to sell...not common items.
