I sold a book here from my 10,000 volume library, book shop 3 days ago.
This never happened before now.

I can’t find it. It’s here but where?

I spent last 2 days searching for it to no avail getting too too much anxiety & fear.

Due to recent knee replacement surgery I was afraid to go up on the ladder to search highest shelves & knee hurts bending down while searching lowest shelves.

I put an ad into my apartment building’s inner newsletter asking for help searching for this book. A very nice man just volunteered & did a most through 1 hour 5 minute search 👀 to no avail. Another lady is due to come 7 P.M. to also search 👀 for book.

Can’t imagine where this book is. It is here but I don’t know where!

What do I do about this book I did sell but now is missing & can not be sent to my good eBay buyer? How to best handle my situation?

Thank you in advance. This never happened to me before now. A real turning point in my life with my books…

These things tend to happen from time to time so don't beat yourself up over it.

You won't know an item can't be found until it sells and you look for it and can't find it. This has happened to me before and after I look everywhere I can think of where the item could be and still can't find it I cancel the sale. I do my best to try to minimize this happening but it can and some times does happen.

The honest and moral way to handle it is to cancel the transaction for 'out of stock' and take the defect.

Not to sound like a smart-alec since I don't know how you do things, but maybe do a full inventory over time and number each individual shelf. That is what I did a few months ago. Under each item in the description box I have the line "Current location" and listed that particular location. Of course I only have around 200 items which is a lot easier than what you have to deal with.

Sound dumb, but look in the box on the floor. (Is there a box on the floor?)

Really tho, Look in spots that it should never be. I have "lost" a couple items. They turned up in a space they should never have been. I have no clue how they got there.

In the meantime, take the ding, refund the buyer. After the book is found, you can either take a ding and send them the book on your dime, or relist it.
