I acquired a large number of Playstation 2 games secondhand. Each game has a disc and booklet but the part of the case marked "memory card holder" is empty. Do these games come with a memory card when new? When listing them as secondhand is it important to put that there is no memory card? thanks

I personally don't ever remember any games coming with the memory card. The spot for them was there so that you could have the one you saved that games data on as some of them needed lots of space but I don't believe they ever came with the card.
I don't think there is a need to mention no memory card but it never hurts to add extra info in the description for the few people that will read them.

As the father of two boys whom are big time gamers, I have bought and sold a ton of games for Playstation, Nintedo and Xbox and none of the games NEW have ever came with a memory card.
The slot is merely there for you to put your own memory card in there so that you don't loose it and know what game it has saved on it.
In all my years of listing second hand games, I have never listed that the game doesn't come with a memory card. It is pretty much understood by all the gamers. The only time I have seen anything about a memory card mentioned is when someone includes one as a bonus and this doesn't happen very often. If you look at the used Playstation Games listed here on ebay, no one is mentioning that the games don't come with a memory card. I just looked at twenty different listings and there no mention of a memory card not being included.
Hope this helps!

thanks all. I also checked a few listings, nothing about a memory card. Just checking since I only acquired these in a globalized effort to get stuff to resell, not because of experience with them.
