Photo problem, need help

Just wondering if anyone could help with why my images get really bad once uploaded to Ebay.  I think it may be called pixelation but am wondering why this is happening and what I can do to remedy this. Thank you in advance

Since most of my stamps are flat, I do not photograph them.

I scan them.

This also means I can adjust the dpi (I think this means Dots Per Inch). Most of my images are at 600 dpi but I also use 1200 dpi when I want more precise pictures.

Lower dpi does pixilate. Higher can be too high for eBay to accept.

And with a scan I can focus on a specific part of a stamp.

What are you taking the pics with? If not a scanner a good scanner would fix the problem at at least 300dpi or above. I don't use a phone camera because the pics will change like you are describing.

I believe it's called "parsing" which is a conversion and a reduction of file size to meet the size that is set by the server — when it comes to jpegs it's usually a degradation of areas of colour.

Try reducing the size of the pictures a bit, but still save the jpegs at 100% and marked as non-progressive in photoshop. You can upload other formats (like PGN, etc) but all image files formats will be parsed to jpeg so there's no point in saving your files with other extension and I believe that other file formats will suffer a stronger conversion than a jpeg.

Upload from a desktop/laptop.

Of course, stamps are a bit smaller than antique maps.

And an antique print and map dealer we used to share space with was very leery about subjecting his wares to the bright light of a photocopier.

EBay image uploader compresses user images to save storage space. The compression process causes image quality loss. The new listing tool has actually improved listing image quality than before. You can only try editing your images and see which version looks better when uploaded on eBay. Use your photo as an example, it is black and white so you can use a photo editor to remove any colors in your photo before you upload it.

Can you crop out the background that is not part of the picture.  That will make the file size smaller.

Here is a picture I took that is 2.1 mb at 480 DPI that was 2478 pixels wide by 3664 pixels long but it is resized as eBay determines.  It looks the same on eBay as it does on my computer.

I am having similar problems. Photos of my old smartphone are in excess of 4mb in size each, and these are already stored on my PC.  Then as I try to add a photograph to my eBay listing, the resolution is somehow reduced to a fraction of the original resolution and  it's rejected by eBay and an error message tells me to use a higher resolution photograph.

Maybe I'll try the method of printing the photos on glossy paper, then scanning them. But I wonder if there is  amore elegant solution.
