Even if I hadn't been selling online for 27 years, I think I would still be insulted when a buyer sends a note to seller like these: "Please pack it securely in case of damages during shipping" or "Make sure you carefully package this" or "Add extra peanuts & tissue paper with the package" and my favorite, "Make sure this won't get damaged during shipping." Don't buyers know how insulting this is to the seller? Also, I've seen packages that look as if USPS drop-kicked them into a garbage truck & we certainly don't have control over how our packaged are handled. I've tried to think of ways to respond to these comments, letting the buyer know I always package with care & that it's insulting telling a seller how to do his/her job. And lastly, that I would have to ship in steel boxes in order to insure safe travels. Thoughts?

Tell them not to worry - you ship via teleporter - just have them spin around 3 times, blink twice and it will be there!!
(sorry need a sarcasm font. lol)
Dear Buyer
Thank you for your email and detailed shipping instructions.
Thankfully for this Holiday Season, you are IN luck! The post office is so impressed with how I pack my shipments, they even allowed me a "fast pass" of sorts that allows all my parcels to bypass anything that could damage or impede its' speedy safe delivery to you!
Have a wonderful Holiday Season and try to be nice to your neighbors, give generously, not cheat on your spouse, avoid grumbling at your inlaws, maintain patience while waiting in line and last, but not least, please refrain from purchasing from us again (the last one is EASY as we blocked you!!).
Happy Holidays!!

Dear Buyer: I charge extra for Custom Shipping & Handling requests and those must be requested prior to purchase. Your package will be shipped with my 'usual' care and diligence.

My favorite is when they send a note to "please leave on porch" or "knock on door when delivering" - like I am the one actually delivering the package or like I will stop my shipping process to write a special note on their envelope. No way!

Unless they ask me a question about packing, I don't respond. It just sounds like a generic thought that they probably send to everyone based on a bad experience in 2005.

The problem is many other buyers can tell you horror stories of badly packed items that arrive broken. If you read negative feedback, lots of them are by buyers complaining of bad packing and broken items. Some sellers just slap the shipping label on items, no box, and ship.
So I for one will not take it personally. I understand their fear especially if it is something they want badly. Steel boxes of course is a silly suggestion.

Yes one simple word back to them. " Always".

"Dear buyer,
Thank you for your message. Rest assured your item will be well packaged for shipment.
Thank you,
Seller"
I get those from time to time, and I have to say I get it completely. It doesn't insult me at all.
Some of the packing (or lack thereof) from some sellers here is just disgraceful.

"Doctor, before we go in for surgery, can you please try and be extra careful with me?" 😉

Don't worry about it. Some sellers have no clue as how to pack and the buyer just worries a bit. Back when people sent payments my mail I received a few reprints from magazines of how to pack with the payment.

Amen.

As always!!!
Thanks for your purchase let me know if you have any other concerns!
I had someone tape cardboard around a nice, higher end Sony ES cd player a few years ago and send it UPS.
The front was smashed and the loading transport was floating (rattling) on the inside of the case.
I bought it "as-is" so they they figured I would not care... No lie, not making stuff up. Maddest ever.
That is why, once someone has received a damaged item, gun-shy every time. Don't take offense.

I love it! Wish I could reply with witty sarcasm & not get de-starred for it.

It shouldn't be a pet peeve because the average seller does not know how to prevent damage in terms of packaging, it is only learned through years of experience. If I didn't go over packaging instructions beforehand with sellers, many more orders would arrive damaged.

Bingo. I thought it was ridiculous too until I purchased something on another site only to have it arrive literally just thrown into the box, no packing materials, nothing. Some people do not have two brain cells to rub together when it comes to packing.
