Permanent seller restriction and Ebay does not know why. Anyone help?

I have had my Ebay account for many years and i used to sell stuff when i had the time, needed money or whatever the reason. For 5 years i did not really need or want to sell anything due to being busy and other reasons, but when i went to try to sell something it said permanent seller restriction and i can not even look at my seller dashboard, i called twice already asking to lift this restriction, and even asked them if they can start me with a few listings, they can monitor me,put me on some kind of probation, even though i do not deserve it. They can not give me a reason why and wanted to know who would be able to uplift this restriction that was put on 5 years ago. Thanks

I’m sorry this happened.

Could you have left owing a balance or owing merchandise to a buyer?

Maybe if you called back and asked for Trust and Safety?

I understand these things can be terribly difficult to work out. I wish you the best, and maybe someone with more knowledge will come along.

In addition to @this*old*attic response...

Can you go to the file cabinet and retrieve those records of 5 years ago and review them? Or at least think real hard and try to remember why you were restricted in the first place. Often permanent restrictions stem from violating policies -

* like trying to sell something that was prohibited (like a gun for example)...

* or maybe an item they told you to remove and you relisted it instead just because you saw other ads for the same product...

* or were you or your ads removed because someone reported you, like for repeated picture violations or fee avoidance...

* were you underage...

* or did someone else buy something through your account and you did not pay for it...

* or did you have a serious argument with a buyer over something...

* or did you let your credit card on file be rejected one too many times for fee payment...

* or did you make too many INR or SNAD returns as a buyer...

* or did your account fall below standard 4.8% (when star ratings pulled a lot of weight)...

* or was it about the time when we started having defects pile up against us all and you got more than your fair share...

Does anything ring a bell with you from this list or from Ms Rose? Not all of these are reasons for termination in and of itself... but thinking about such may lead your thoughts in the right direction to recall exactly what happened.

Point is, it could have been anything - but what it was will determine if you have a chance to appeal or not. So think long and hard - because some offenses are worse than others. Try and find your paperwork (hopefully you kept records, or maybe have the same email account and can review old mail (that you wisely did not delete)... maybe your PayPal account can offer a clue.

Get your defense ready and call on a weekday morning (Utah time) and you might get lucky and have a long term employee US person answer your call.

I can only hope you get it all worked out... good luck @mikeyisgood54321

None of us here will be able to help you.  We can throw out questions, as you can see, but it means nothing really.  5 years is a long time.  I wouldn't try calling Ebay again on Monday.  I would contact Ebay via Social Media, your chances of getting better help is much higher this way.

It's important to be aware of where you post a question on Ebay’s Facebook page.  A comment on one of Ebay’s marketing posts won't be answered, but comments posted directly on Ebay’s page will.

Re: Permanent seller restriction and Ebay does not know why. Anyone help?

Hi, sorry for your troubles.

A lot has changed in five years. But looking back, right about the time you stopped selling, eBay was launching its new search engine, called Cassini, and a new CEO was attempting to bring his vision to the platform. More restrictive rules were put in place with an eye to improving seller's customer service skills.

After looking at your feedback as a seller, it seems you had some ongoing issues with buyers, such as shipping delays and limited communication. It didn't take much at that time for a seller to find himself in hot water and negative feedback was included in a seller's metrics. It was all part of a new system introduced in 2014, eBay's Defect Rating System. It punished sellers for what eBay considered to be poor performance in meeting buyer expectations. If I had to guess, it is possible your permanent suspension could have occurred under the new defect system.

Ebay purged thousands of sellers from the platform in late 2013 to early 2014. At the time, a seller was promised an appeal would be possible for those unfairly weeded out, but it was apparently difficult for a purged seller to actually get an appeal, let alone find himself reinstated. Now, five years later, you will have to be very persistent and very patient. It could take a long concerted effort to contact eBay and find out why you were restricted and whether or not you can appeal at this late date. Be ultra-professional in demeanor and start calling customer service to request reinstatement. You may have to make multiple calls. Ask for a supervisor and keep notes.

Other posters will be along with more detailed advice, I am sure. Wish you much luck in your efforts. Hang in there!

Re: Permanent seller restriction and Ebay does not know why. Anyone help?

Thanks for the responses, they do not have any answer or reason for me being blocked. I do not owe any money, and i asked them how i would get this block and they said i would have to go from top rated to regular, to standard seller, to below standard, they would give warnings and emails and limit my amount of listings to sell. Now if this happened i would know about it and they would definitely have a record of little by little failing to follow the rules. No crime was done and i asked them to tell there supervisor that Ebay could have made a mistake. If they weigh the information they have i do not owe any money. I have sold about 20,000 dollars worth of stuff in a limited amount of time, i purchase things everyday and always pay on time etc. So i hope they can escalate this on high because it sounds like this type of block would be a real bad violation and policy violation and that is not the case. I would assume they would not even let me make purchases the way this block was put on. I asked them to limit my listings, follow what i am doing etc if they want plus it would be stupid to try to get away with doing some kind of scam because the ebay buyers and sellers and the algorithyms would catch a person doing violations real quick.  When they say we will get back to you to let you know what is going on and they do not do that, i see that as unprofessional. I will keep trying and creating a record in there computer calling them a few more times. It seems like they are keeping me from making potential income, and it is starting to feel personal. It is now more the principle that if and when i want to try to sell some items i would have that available to me. So i don't know, i will wait a little and see. It also depends on who you get on the line can make a big difference. I know this first hand as i was customer service for verizon for 12 years and if they wanted to take the block off they have to just press a button. I alsol understand they need to protect there business but if they made a mistake it is ok, i forgive you Ebay just let me do my thing... Thanks
