On the 15th of June I got an email informing me that me that my account had been restricted (no longer allowed to sell, but I can still buy) because somehow my account was linked to another account I have no ties to which had been put on restriction. The first time I contacted customer service I never heard anything back. I contacted them again tonight and told them that I have no ties to this other account and my primary concern is that somehow my account got hacked (which has happened in the past and been resolved without much drama). They tell me I should hear something within the next 24 hours. About an hour later I get the following email:
Thanks for contacting eBay in regards of account restrictions. I understand that this is a frustrating situation for you. We reviewed your account and found that it is linked to an account nsb-motorsports . The account you have been linked to is outlined in the email that you received in relation to this action.
We look at a variety of information to determine a relationship between the accounts. For example, we investigate shared contact, financial, or computer information, and selling behaviors.
If we find a strong enough relationship between the accounts, we may take action on the secondary account to make sure that the owner of that account doesn’t circumvent any unresolved issues by selling on the accounts of others they may know.
Much of this information remains protected by eBay because if we told members how we link accounts, it would provide them with a way to circumvent being linked to other accounts in the future.
While we don’t expect you to personally resolve the issue on the other account(s), we’re not comfortable with you continuing to sell at your previous level until the issue on the linked account is resolved.
You can reach out to said account to have any underlying issues resolved. Depending on the issue and if it can be resolved, we can then look at your own account again.
I am sorry if this is not the answer that you were looking for.
I put in another call and am told that the restriction is permanent, they will not even tell me how I am in any way linked to this other account now will they tell me anyway, that there is literally nothing I can do to resolve this mistake, and that I am not allowed any further appeals on the matter. This is madness. Supposedly, a supervisor is going to call me back at some point in the next 24 hours but based on what the man I spoke to told me they are just going to tell me the same thing.
I have 100% positive feedback. I've been a seller for ages. I don't even sell that much compared to most people on here. I have no ties to this other account and have no idea how my account has in any way been linked to it and nobody at ebay will even tell me because they act like its a trade secret (they did tell me my account wasn't hacked, which only raises more questions), and, apparently, there's nothing I can do about and nothing they want to do about it. This is absolute madness. Am I going to have to get a lawyer?
Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone have any suggestions on who to contact or how to resolve this mess? I have no idea what to do or what to even make of all this. Absolutely infuriating.
Craziest thing is I actually found a post on this message board from 2015 from the nsb-motorsports account themselves complaining of being victims of fraud on ebay.

The account I am somehow linked to posted on here back in 2015 to complain that they were being scammed and I can't help but wonder if this somehow ties into this mess. Still doesn't explain how I am tied into it, though.

Very strange that the offending nsb-motorsports account isn't NARU-
Curious to say the least..

I can tell you that if you generally use public Wi-Fi, a VPN is a must.
There are attacks out there like MITM (And I know how it works) and its worth purchasing a VPN because anyone can steal login credentials on a Wi-Fi network

Well I am going off of my unbiased opinion. The only reason I find it hard to believe is the correlation your account and that one has. I am not saying I am taking sides, I am neutral on things because if I take sides, then my opinions would be biased and unhelpful in ways. 😛
Maybe the CC could be an issue, but again I cant speak for ebay. I would contact them via Facebook (they are much more helpful there) and keep us updated with what they tell you. For all we know, they could have booted you by mistake.

They can still buy items here.

My account was restricted on July 23, 2021, Ebay says I’m linked to another account which is ridiculous, I am a top rated seller I’ve been with Ebay since 2011 I have no issues with my account none. Very unfair for Ebay to use this practice against their good sellers, I cannot fix someone else’s account and I’m not sure why Ebay thinks we can. And the sad part is two days after my restriction I was sent an email from Ebay stating that the restriction was removed by David there Ebay rep I have the email in my inbox but the back office would not honor it. What is wrong with this company?

Soo I hope someone is suing or files a class action against them for this. They just did this to me linking me to various accounts belonging to what appears to be my homeless brother (similar emails to his) and I don't even talk to him have great ratings usually ship same day, they lied to me saying they would only have me restricted for 30 days then locked me down so I couldn't get paid. Then suddenly no no 30 days fix the problem that I can't fix bc I have no control over those accounts or my brother or whoever they belong to really. Lmao tried to post this and it errored.

Sorry to hear - as I suggested Up Thread to another poster, reach out on E-Bay facebook for business. No clue if they will help on cases like these. Worth a shot.

A friend's relative had an account that they have tried off and on to close for over 6 years due to their death.
eBay refuses to close the account and it affects the relative's account ( no idea why). They have supplied the death certificate and tons of proper paperwork and ebay just basically ignores everything.

Most likly they still owe money on it and or subscriptions are still active...
May take legal advice to get it closed such as going for a court order to do so...
Just saying.

Nope. Not a penny owed, no listings, no subscriptions, nothing. They already done the legal route, lawyer letters and also sent a court order to ebay. The account was rarely used and then only to buy an occasional item. eBay still has done nothing. They are not wasting anymore time or money on it and ebay has lost 4 others members over it. Their entire family is pretty ticked off about it.
Just saying.

Same happened to me. They restricted me from selling indefinitely, I've always had 100% outstanding ratings and never any issues.
They say my account was assocated with another account , actually a friend I know, only thing I can think of is one time I was doing work on his car and I ordered some parts for it on my ebay acct, I used his PayPal acct. to pay for the order.
Wondering if that's how they say I'm associated to him.? I did t think there was anything wrong with doing that.
And like all others they won't give any info or explanation about it.
I can see if something wrong was done I would totally accept it. But this is unjustified.

I got a permanent restricted selling email and just said to keep the community safe. No other explanation. I have no idea whatsoever is going on and just get the same response. Not to mention I had money for payouts that's being held. No appeal. No nothing. From my basic knowledge of buying and selling, this is flat out theft. I've done nothing wrong and have no idea why this has happened. It's absolutely unacceptable and also had a 100% positive feedback on my record. It's obsurd to say the least!
