Perfect example of why eBay shouldn't force free returns on Motors or anyone

Had a Freightliner part listed, part number, general model/year range. Buyer asks will this fit a Cascadia?

I reply I am not sure, I would suggest contacting your dealer. He messages me a day or two later and says its a 2000.

I reply from my additional research, which I did,  your truck is outside the year range, but again, call a dealer.

Two days later he buys it and a week later he opens a remorse return. He has no problem paying for the label apparently. But eBay wouldn't want him to have any accountability here.

We motor sellers are now equivalent to a department store dressing room, only we eat shipping, so that's not even accurate, with the buyer having 0 repercussions for their stupidity or laziness.

Agreed, would have been a very quick block to avoid a potential issue as they are clearly not willing to do the research themselves which to me is a lazy buyer.

That is the problem with free returns! With free returns this buyer would not have even bothered to reach out to the seller.. Why would he... Why should he? It's free to purchase and return anything you want. No reprocussions, no reason not to.

This new policy is going to make returns skyrocket and cost sellers thousands of dollars..... It's not worth the handful of extra irresponsible buyers that it will bring to the platform

So, is everybody ending their listings and changing them to "used" yet?

I completely agree, a disaster being forced upon sellers to save eBay a few bucks covering return shipping.

Never mind that we are losing the ability to deny these remorse returns, which is one of the very few things return related that sellers have any control over.

If they are so dead set on offering a Seamless Return experience, they should cover the Return Shipping 100% AND the seller should NOT have to refund the original shipping cost.

It is amazing   that eBay  is pushing free returns   ,when the other online sites and well known brand named company's ended it  over   money lot to   Buyer  return abuse and fraud   .

I'm curious about something--I see you offer free shipping, but is Priority a requirement in ebay motors?

@looyloo @siamjane8 @mtgraves7984  you all bring out great points. I am generally quick to block buyers who ask too many questions or give the vibe. In this case I was asleep at the wheel.

I will be much quicker to now block the types of buyers eBay is now trying to attract.

My son blocks most any buyer who asks more than 1 question, sometimes even just 1. I will have to now do the same.

@carlmarxx and on top of that, they decide to start in a category where returns on many items are not even accepted by the big box stores. It's like they do all they can to be out of tune with what's happening in ecommerce.

I only  block the buyer if I get Nutter  vibe  based on a lot questions , I will  look over  their feedback left for  others  and will look at feedback left by sellers  to look over what  they bought  .

@esg-enterprises

Agreed... Just another unintended consequence of this stupid ill thought out policy. I will be blocking more buyers as well. That will really make eBay a great place to shop when people can't figure out why they can't make purchases.     I know of quite a few sheets that have banded together and share their blocked but lists to help each other weed out the abusive ones on the platform.....

I believe  very soon   eBay  will find  it self in a class action suit,  that will also show their arbitration is a Paper tiger  worthless  since  there is no  signed  on paper agreement  .

I would assume that @esg-enterprises offers free shipping for the same reason I do.
Ease of decision for buyers.
Ease of decision for us.
In order to sell something, if you believe price is important. Then, you are competing with other sellers TOTAL price shipped.
If somebody else is selling the same thing for $20 plus $10 shipping.  That's $30.  Mine needs to be cheaper ($29).    If I can't make money shipping this item for $29.  I can't make money selling it for $19 and shipping it for $10.
And I can't sell it at all for $21 plus $10.
Really makes no difference aside from creating an EASY total for the buyer.
PRIORTY isn't a requirement.  We usually ship the cheapest method possible-vs-time of delivery.
By offering Free Shipping, nobody complains about multiple orders being shipped together.  Nobody complains about the chosen method either. Even switching after the purchase.
(well, there was this one guy...lol). But that's it....one buyer in as long as I can remember.

I've been here too long to block buyers based on a couple of questions.  My list is just about full.
4 questions and/or that feeling ya get?  Yeah, I'll make room. LOL
