Penalized for miscategorizing Comic Book Magnet as an accessory, not a comic

Hello everyone,

Today eBay penalized me for 3 days where I cannot list or revise any listings because of a miscategorizing of a listing. What I am selling is a 2x3" sized magnet with a comic book cover on it. I listed this in Comic Book accessories because I thought listing it in the comic books proper section would confuse people into thinking this magnet was a comic book.

My question to comic book sellers out there, where would you place this item in what category?

I have many other magnets up that are similar if you want to check it out. I won't be able to edit any of them for the next 3 days. It's just so frustrating!

Your eBay selling privileges have been temporarily restricted: Miscategorized Items
Hello robbieshobby,

We've determined that some of your listings haven't followed our Miscategorized Items policy. As a result, we've taken the following actions on your account:
- Selling privileges have been temporarily restricted. You won't be able to list new items or revise current listings for 3 days. You're also not allowed to register a new account during this time.
- Listings that didn't follow our policies have been removed. A list of removed item(s) is available further down in this email.
- Any fees for listings that were ended early for not following policy won't be credited to your account.

Please select a category that's an exact match for the item you're selling, so that buyers can find what they're looking for. A good guideline is that if a category exists that fits your item more closely, then it should be sold there.

Selling an item in an inappropriate category isn't allowed.

Many buyers narrow their search to a specific category. Including items that don't belong in a particular category makes search results less helpful and can result in fewer purchases. It also confuses buyers, who may be uncertain about what's actually being offered. This can lead to buyers filing claims.

"
Specific reason for the current action :

We appreciate your efforts to list this product under < Collectibles>Comics>Apparel & Accessories>; however, it is not the relevant one. We would like to suggest the most appropriate category for your product where the buyers may tend to look for; apparently, helps in speedy sale. Correct category for your product : Collectibles>Comics>Modern Age (1992-Now)>Superhero>Spider-Man

We'd love to send an advisory notice to you before acting on the listing; however, the set restrictions with edit listing might not allow you to change the category. Hence, we request you to relist this item under the correct category as suggested above."

During this restriction you can still:
- Send email
- Obtain shipping addresses
- Leave feedback
- Perform other administrative tasks

Please be sure to manage your current listings and complete any open transactions during this time. After 3 days, your account will no longer be restricted. Please be sure that your current and future listings, including any items that are relisted automatically, follow these guidelines. If they don't, they'll be removed, and your fees won't be refunded. It could also result in additional actions, including prolonged loss of buying and selling privileges on eBay.

Here's a list of the item(s) that were removed:
173968226594 - Marvel Comics Comic Book Magnet Amazing Fantasy Introducing Spider-Man

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Thanks,

eBay

Penalized for miscategorizing Comic Book Magnet as an accessory, not a comic

It does not fit under the Apparel & Accessories subcategory. It also does not belong in the category they suggested. I would use-

collectibles- comics- other comic collectibles

or maybe

collectibles- kitchen & home- magnets

I would contact eBay and have them put some human eyes on it.

While Accessories may be wrong, their suggestion is far from right.  I wouldn't tell them that Accessories may be wrong though (and I'm not sure it is), but rather their removal was incorrect as it is not a comic book.

If there's a chance to get that restriction lifted and removed from your record, go for it.  A future removal will garner much stronger restrictions because of this one.

Edit:  I took a peek at other magnets listed.  While many are under Apparel & Accessories, I think eBay means Accessories as in jewelry or other wearable doodads.

There are over 1000 listings for comic magnets in the category:

collectibles- comics- other comic collectibles

so that definitely looks like the right place to list it.

OP, sorry you were penalized without warning.

First, I'm sorry this happened to you.

Second ... Wow ... I'm so glad I'm not trying to sell here, as I really can't believe this.

eBay has thousands of Pornographic items in the wrong categories (and not hidden, so they can be seen by children), and you were given an account restriction for a Comic Book Magnet.

They should be treating Customers much better than this, and first provide a warning/suggestion to correct the listing if there's an issue.

The one thing that also stuck out in eBay's message to you was:

Any fees for listings that were ended early for not following policy won't be credited to your account.

Which means that you may have to pay another listing fee, if you don't have Free Listing Credits.  This is just another Fee Grab.

I would contact Customer Support right away and address this over the phone.  They should not be penalizing you for something like this and this is something that just makes Customers upset and not want to sell here.

Let us know what happens if you call?
