A good example would be an ebay guest buyer who pays at checkout with their CC, without a PP account being involved, and then initiates a chargeback for Unauthorized Transaction.
There. Fixed. I think....it's late....lol!
No.

So basically if they pay on eBay using a cc, or later when the Adyen system goes into effect, those transactions won't be covered under PP seller protection? What it is referring to is the "Send and Request Money" area. Too many people sell items and use this feature to get payment and bypass the Paypal transaction fees... ...losing Paypal money.
So any unauthorized transactions filed because a buyer paid a seller with this link instead of linked to a transaction or a Paypal invoice... ...means the seller has no protection.
Guest buyers that checkout with payment for eBay transactions are NOT included.
I was under the impression that those "friends and family" money transfers were already excluded from any seller and buyer protection, but I may be mistaken. I know that it was pretty common knowledge that there was no buyer protection, but I remember reading through the UA about a year ago and coming to the determination that the way it was worded also excluded the recipient from any charge back protection.
Hopefully Paypal will implement a new "block" so that sellers can prevent any unwanted/unprotected payments from being processed so we don't have to waste time issuing refunds and disputing the measly .30 non refundable fee.

A person sending money through the Send & Request way can file an unauthorized transaction on Paypal against the person receiving the money. This is not a case... ...but where the person who sent the money is stating "I did not authorize this money to be sent". Chargeback.

There is no protection for either party THROUGH PAYPAL when using friends and family to send. There may be protection for the buyer through their CC company IF they fund the payment with a credit card. I'm not sure how that works in that respect.

That's how I understood it as well. I had sold some stuff on forums/facebook and had a few instances where the buyer would request to have the item shipped to an alternate address, so I would request that they send me the money through the friends and family method so they couldn't file an INR through Paypal. Then someone pointed out to me that, yes the buyer would give up their "buyer protection", but those transactions were also not covered against unauthorized transaction claims. When I read through all the policies/UA, I came to that same conclussion and no longer accepted those types of payments and just denied the requests to ship to alternate addresses.

Here's an argument to not "upgrade" to business. Everyone pays a quarter but businesses pay 1%?
Can you downgrade your account? I upgraded mine while messing around with the settings. I didn’t intend to go through with it but there was no way out so I had to complete the process before I could use my account. And wouldn’t you know it, without telling me first my husband upgraded his just so he could get a card reader to take electronic payments for our daughters Girl Scout cookie sales!
This struck me as adorable. If I could I would be getting cookies from your daughter and her dad just for this reason! I hope she (they) earned a patch!
Aww thank you gymbo! They sold at least 300 boxes this year! So she’ll get a patch and a small prize I’m sure! I saw people selling them on eBay and almost thought about doing it myself but didn’t want to get in troubken

@missjen831 and @banana*shoe*boutique
This is not referring to the PayPal Debit Card (business account)
This refers to the new option that they rolled out last year ... you can transfer your money directly to one of those pre-paid Visa/Mastercard debit cards that aren't attached to a physical bank account.
If you choose the "faster withdrawal" method (same day) to that type of account they charge a fee....
Thank you!! I was unaware that PP had added that feature. I thought the update referred to the bank account transfer which is almost immediate now.

I like this too. Once when my daughter was selling them I had to use my personal Square for someone to buy cookies! The guy was seriously jonsing for some GS cookies and said he hadn't seen them anywhere (um, we were at like every store - two just in that mall lol) so I let him use my square and I paid. He bought two cases which made me nervous but all was fine.
I'll take some Thin Mints and Trefoils

Who needs to buy GS cookies on eBay???? Do they not have a Walmart anywhere? Every weekend ours are packed with scouts.

Sorry, I forgot my math hat last night
I need to stop posting while sleeping.
I swear I don't know where that zero came from! Ebay must have added it when I wasn't looking!
That extra 0 is in the next UA

Thanks for clarifying. I've never used it but seems steep to pay 1%

People in rural areas probably have a hard time getting cookies. We have 2 Walmart’s in town but the troops don’t set up tables there. Usually just at various Starbucks, both Safeways and the locally owned grocery store. The thing is, there are different types of cookies, I believe it varies by region or the councils decide which cookies they will sell. I am in CA and we don’t sell Savannah’s smiles so people here probably buy them on eBay! Our s’mores are chocolate covered graham crackers with a layer of marshmallow cream. There is another version which is a sandwich and it’s sold in the Midwest I think, so people who like our version better but only have the sandwhich in their area can go on eBay and get them. Plus cookie sales are only for 4-6 weeks so I also thought about buying up whatever we had left and then listing them when sales are over.

True! I totally forgot that there are two manufacturers of cookies and some that we didn't have. The smore must be new. We didn't have those a few years ago when my daughter sold. I just get the Trefoils (for my mom) and Thin Mints (for a um "friend") every year from my friend who is a leader. Thin Mints freeze awesome and are great right out of the freezer....I've heard.
ETA: Slippery slope from PP UA to GS cookies lol
