As a bookseller, that's not true. And buyers are not required to inspect the books within 10 seconds, or 24 hours. They have the same 30 Day Money Back Guarantee that any other buyer on eBay gets.

That you can verify if NAD in about 10 seconds. Generously, about 24 hours, tops.
Not changing my view that context (always) matters. But I expect diehard eBay defenders on their forum just as I do Google fans on Google forums, etc, and grass is green. Peace, dude.
Sure the book might look good at first.
What if you start reading and find a missing page?
It doesn't matter what the item is, they are all treated the same.

"Hey look, my book as described!"
tears page days later
"uhm... oh, IT WAS LIKE THAT WHEN I GOT IT!"

Might be, but Ebay doesn't know that.
Since the buyer has 30 days to return an item, Ebay wants to make sure the funds are there to refund if needed.
After awhile, the holds will stop on most items.
