hi all. I have never had an issue buying or selling until now.
An item I had listed sold yesterday after a week 3 hrs after it sold the buyer messaged me to say they couldn’t “pay for it yet” and wanted more time and pleaded with me to not “report to eBay as unpaid” or cancel the transaction. This buyer has only joined eBay last week...
I advised I will wait two full days for payment and that they shouldn’t have bid if they can’t pay for it or should have arranged with me prior before bidding. The buyer has messaged me again today saying payment will be made Thursday (which will be day 3). I asked if the buyer wanted to cancel the sale to which they ignored.
I guess there is nothing I can do but wait and see if payment comes through?

Open an unpaid item case on the buyer. That gives them ample time to make payment however the case is longer than your 2 day requirement. If at the end of the UPI case he hasn't paid, relist the item and block his ebay id. The UPI case will give you your listing fee back. If you don't care about getting the listing fee back, tell the buyer if not paid by COB Thursday you will relist the item. At that point block him if not paid. Unfortunately with auctions there is no immediate payment. I think because like with my store I have buyers who will bid over a whole week. But they usually tell me first if they are going to do that. I usually will allow a buyer to wait a bit longer to pay if they message me and ask. FYI if he is new he maybe waiting for his payment method to be accepted by ebay?

I would have have preferred if they asked me first the auction was up for a week prior. I am pretty flexible with a payment timeframe it’s just come as a bit of a shock and why the buyer felt the need to say “please don’t open an unpaid” claim on me raised some alarm bells and at that time didn’t specify when the payment would be paid just that he needed time.
Fingers crossed payment is made and it’s all avoided. If not I’ll open a case.

I often get messages saying can't pay some days for one reason or another in some case they have trouble with their PayPal account other cases they have to wait till pay day. I am happy to cut some of them a little slack as I can relist at any time if they haven't paid after they said they would. Hopefully your buyer is new and just waiting for PayPal or something so he can pay you. It can't hurt to give him till Friday if no joy and no payment by then, then take some action after Friday. But hoping it all comes good and your sale goes through. We want new ebay buyers to have a good feel on the site so they come back and buy again.
