Payment needing to go twice?

I have bought an item today from a wonderful seller and when he confirmed my offer, he said he needed payment although my bank app says i have already paid the amount due on ebay. Is this a common problem? What am i able to do to fix this?

Payment needing to go twice?

I wouldn't jump to assumptions about this.  The OP didn't say the seller asked for their "bank information," just "payment."  Considering how glitchy eBay can be, it is possible that the item appeared unpaid on the seller's end.  And this was for an 'offer' sale, so that adds extra complicaition.

Sounds like a bunch of baloney to me (you only need to make payment through EBAY).   Never give your bank information to anyone.   There are many scammers on EBAY.

You basically hit the nail on the head. My bank is still processing my payment and we have mutually agreed to wait it out a couple of days and see how ebay processes the payment that i HAVE given them already. The seller didn’t ask about bank details or anything of the such, just that I sent my offer, the bank took it, the seller agreed, and ebay’s saying i need to confirm it. My current assumption is that i just have to wait for my payment to post to my bank (tomorrow at the latest i believe).

I completely agree with you on the final 2 sentences. I made an offer to the seller ($5 less than item was listed) and that went through to me, he accepted it, and i got a notification that i still need to pay from ebay, not him.

The bank didn't take your offer, the seller did.  Not sure what's going on here, but possibly you and maybe yur seller as well need to do more reading about the way eBay works.

Agree that the buyer doesn't need to give the seller any banking info, but that is what happens every time you write a paper check.

Checks have your account number, the routing number, your full name, address, and often a phone number. More than enough for a would-be scammer to get started. But, then again, who uses paper checks these days?

and what exactly should we do? My payment is listed as “pending” according to my banking app. Current plan is to wait it out.

It does not matter what your banking app shows. It matters what eBay shows. When you find the order on your eBay purchase history, does it say payment is complete or pending?

What I think may be happening: your payment is confirmed on eBay. But the seller is new or very low volume and subject to payment holds. The seller may not understand how payment holds work and that they need to ship within their handling time regardless of eBay holding their funds. The seller should check their orders page, and if this page tells them it's time to ship, then they need to ship. https://www.ebay.com/sh/ord

Wait it out. I can't believe it will take more than 24 hours to clear.

@jrdco49 : One other thing that comes to my mind: some months back I had some weird experiences in my buying account where I would submit an offer with payment info, the seller would accept it (so payment should occur automatically), and as far as I could tell, the payment did happen, but then I would get this strangely-worded message from the seller saying something along the lines of, "I'm all ready to ship your purchase, and I just need to receive your payment so I can send out your item." (I think there was a post in the Buying group quoting this message and asking others about it, although I don't know if I can find it now.)

That message was weird, because I had already paid and there was nothing else for me to do. It got stranger when I received the same message from 2 or 3 other sellers, the same weird wording, which led me to think that eBay was sending these out under the seller's name, but the seller himself might know nothing about it.

I've been making steady purchases to this day in my buying account, via auctions, BuyItNows or Make Offers, and have not received that message for a little while now, but what you're describing sounds like the same thing I saw. If you can post an anonymized copy of what that message said, I'll know if it's the same thing I received.

ebay says “You’ve committed to buy this item. Please go to checkout and pay.” I am unable to pay as what i bought was $96 and i’m currently left with under $96.

that sounds word for word what was sent to me yesterday. i’m currently unable to access chats with the seller because ebay needs “more information” about me. i think this is because of my accounts brand new status.

OK, in that case is sounds like the "pending" charge on your bank might be a pre-authorization tied to an offer or auction, eBay making sure you had the funds, but not the actual charge. Unless this was a buy-it-now situation in which case that's your actual charge still in pending status.

Was this a listing where you made an offer to or accepted an offer from the seller?

Was it an auction format?

Did you click "buy it now" at the listed price?

So either it's something to do with what ac-green mentioned, or:

It could be that pending charge is just the pre-authorization that will be reversed after the actual payment is made. We've seen situations where the pending charge stays around too long.

Can you confirm, did you provide your payment info before submitting the offer, or did you pay after the seller accepted the offer?

If you confirmed the payment method before submitting the offer, then it could be that pending charge, and the subsequent balance being too low, means eBay hasn't been able to apply the actual charge. If you submitted payment after the seller accepted the offer, then you may have to wait a day or two for the payment to change over from pending to confirmed.
