PayPal cancelling accounts, conducting business without PayPal

PayPal recently cancelled both of my PayPal accounts last Monday and they will only state I violated their policy agreement, no further explanation as to how even though one account wasn't even being used. Two days later it's all over the news about how the CEO of PayPal has sided with the SPLC and they are eliminated all accounts they don't agree with politically. I own a gun shop but do not use PayPal for firearms or even advertise PayPal on my company website. I spoke with Ebay support (outside of U.S.) and they have no answers as to how to carry on business without PayPal. Has anyone else experienced this? Is anyone else taking payments besides PayPal?

@chesterfieldarmament- Visit this eBay page to see if you can opt in to eBay's Managed Payments program. There is also a phone number on the page that goes directly to the Payments team.

There was another user here about 10 days ago who also lost is paypal account for unknown reasons.  I directed him to the paypal legal pages.  Here is what paypal says  -

Please be advised that due to the violation of PayPal's Acceptable Use Policy, your account will remain permanently limited.

The PayPal User Agreement states that PayPal, at its sole discretion, reserves the right to limit an account for any violation of the User Agreement, including the Acceptable Use Policy.

The complete Acceptable Use Policy can be found by clicking Legal at the bottom of any page, select your location and click PayPal Acceptable Use Policy.

You could click on the legal link above and hopefully find a solution to your problem.

Have you called PP or are you trying to deal with them through email?  Calling is usually the best way on serious matters.

If that doesn't work, do what Coffeebean suggested.  That is the only alternative you have at this point if you can't get your account reinstated.

Unless you can figure out a different, yet valid, way to set up a new PP account.  You can always update your current listings to the new account.

I'm so sorry but the Ebay rep you spoke to should have directed you to Managed Payments.  Perhaps there is a reason they did not?  I don't know but it is concerning because this potentially puts  you and others out of business.

@Anonymous

Since this effectively puts someone out of business, can you advise us on this?  Perhaps there is a reason unknown to us as to why CS did not recommend Managed Payments?  Naturally we are directing those so affected to Managed Payments.

Thank you, Trinton!

I just asked to participate in this program and will have to wait for them to contact me. Thank you for the suggestion. It seems Ebay is trying to separate themselves from PayPal and reap the processing fees for themselves. Smart move on their part.

Did they say anything about violating the acceptable use policy?

You may not use the PayPal service for activities that:

  1. violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation.
  2. relate to transactions involving (a) narcotics, steroids, certain controlled substances or other products that present a risk to consumer safety, (b) drug paraphernalia, (c) cigarettes, (d) items that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity, (e) stolen goods including digital and virtual goods, (f) the promotion of hate, violence, racial or other forms of intolerance that is discriminatory or the financial exploitation of a crime, (g) items that are considered obscene, (h) items that infringe or violate any copyright, trademark, right of publicity or privacy or any other proprietary right under the laws of any jurisdiction, (i) certain sexually oriented materials or services, (j) ammunition, firearms, or certain firearm parts or accessories, or (k) certain weapons or knives regulated under applicable law.

PayPal just states the same sentence over and over, "you violated policy." They literally don't care and will not let you talk to the team that makes the decisions.

They can barely speak fluent English and she kept asking someone standing behind her who suggested patching things up with PayPal. They were of no help.

No, they are getting close to the end of their contract with PP.  And as any good business they are planning ahead of time for that.

Currently, managed payments doesn't offer PP for the buyers to pay with, but that will change later this summer.  However the money paid via PP by buyers will NOT go into a PP account of the seller, it will go into the new Ebay managed payment account.

I'm sorry they were not helpful.

Paypal is supposedly going to be available through Managed Payments in the summer of 2019, according to what Ebay has said.

That's an important consideration you bring up there, @goodluckselling

By next year all sellers will be opted in to managed payments. If you're not part of the group that's accepted or opted in this summer, then you may have to bide your time by selling locally until next summer.

Call PayPal tomorrow on a weekday- you may be able to get a better rep who will tell you why specifically you were banned or what policy you violated. Do you use a VPN service?

If the seller is banned from paypal and eBay starts accepting paypal through the managed payments, how will eBay handle this account in managed payment when Paypal is added?

It sounds like the OP only uses paypal for ebay transactions.  They mentioned they do not use it on there website or local store.
