I had a sportcard that I sold returned to me today under the reason that an Ebay "partner authenticator" said my card had been "altered", which was a bald faced lie! I have had this card since I pulled it from a pack of cards back in 2001. It's a chrome card. How do you even alter a chrome card!? I never touched the card until I pulled it out of my collection and sold it a week ago. What the &$%#!? So it appears that eBay is now employing "partner authenticators" to buy your cards? And then they inspect them and decide what is authentic or not? This is some crazy eBay stuff, a complete overreach as usual, and a slap in the face of honest sellers. But what else is new from eBay. Typical disrespect and nonsense. I'd tell you who to add to your blocked bidder list to avoid this garbage, or tell you the charlatan authenticators name, but of course that is verboten.

Wonder
Asking this to learn; was the card previously authenticated and in a sealed holder? Or just sent out as pulled from pack?
My understanding on cards that ebay was using an accredited authenticator and that the merchandise was returned to the seller if the authenticator "failed" the card.
I have found that antique glass appraiser can differ in opinions on pieces that I have sold as to value and authentication. I did get my pieces back.
Thanks for taking the time to let me know more about your bad experience

"I'd tell you who to add to your blocked bidder list to avoid this garbage"
Why would any bidder be at fault due to the authentication failing a card???

Let me give an update on my own post, seeing as how I just got off the phone with eBay's own Department of Authenticity. Yep, I kid you not, eBay is actually stepping in between a seller and a buyer, without the seller knowing it, and having you, as a seller, send your goods to a third party authenticator, again without you knowing it. Then the authenticator, namely SGC Grading, inspects your card and determines if there is anything wrong with it before it forwards it along to your actual buyer. Can anyone see how many ways this is wrong?! Want to avoid this deceptive intrusion? First off, never list anything for over $249.99. That's the "official" break off amount for authentication. But then, what about SGC? Can they be trusted as an authenticator? After this fiasco, I'd have to strongly say NO! There is a reason why PSA and Beckett grading services are the gold standard for authentication. So be advised, all this is going on under the guise of supposedly helping eBay "sellers". Excuse me. Tell me how that helps eBay sellers. No it's just another poorly thought out Ebay idea guaranteed to muck everything up for everybody. As far as I'm concerned, if even one honest seller gets swept up in this boondoggle it's one too many.
Ebay wishes us to believe that SGC is infallible in their judgements and dealings. What happens the first time you get your card back from SGC in really damaged condition, or the card returned to you isn't even your card? Who is going to step in and advocate for the seller? Not eBay. Anyway you cut it, if you are a seller you are screwed.

Some of your current listings show "Authenticity Guarantee" but you weren't aware of the program?

Here's the link to the Authenticity Guarantee. >> eBay Authenticity Guarantee for Trading Cards | eBay.com
As @itscalledapostingid mentions, some of your listings still show it... you might want to revisit those. Good luck.

That's a great question? More collateral damage from another deceptive eBay program gone off the rails. It's hard to know how or why Ebay is doing what they are doing at any given moment, so you don't really know who the actual bidder is. And the gall of it all is that ebay advertises it as more "protection for sellers"!! Uh, thanks for nothing eBay!

Just sent out as pulled from a pack. Read my update below for more information.

There is a reason grading companies remove themselves from buying or selling of graded items.

Ooops! Hit the wrong button and suddenly your reply is now the accepted solution.
In answer to your question, NO I'm not aware of one tenth of the crap Ebay is doing to make my life miserable! From "item specifics" to this latest crap, I wish they'd just leave well enough alone. But they won't. So yes these "Authenticity Guarantee" labels show up on my auctions, and I didn't ask for them or even know what they are about. I guess I do now, somewhat. NO ONE asked me if my items for sale were authentic, they just slapped that label on them. Actually I gave it little thought because I know my stuff IS authentic. Almost all of it is pack pulled by me. So I guess I'm going to have to take more time out of my sched to deal with all this helpful stuff ebay is doing for me.
05-12-2022 03:19 PM
Yep, I'll have to figure that out for sure.
05-12-2022 10:46 PM
THIS ISN'T AN ACCEPTED SOLUTION, PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hear you there. In further disclosure from eBay, there is no way to opt out of this crazy ass program. Because some idiot sellers thought this would be a good system to institute suddenly ALL sellers are forced into the authentication system. Kind of like all the other **bleep** going on in society. Whatever a small group wants the majority are forced to comply. It sucks for eBay to be doing this to their sellers but what can anyone do about. It's just one more roadblock to be negotiated and worked around. Just another hindrance to sellers to make it more difficult to sell anything.

This was NOT done without your knowledge. Or put differently, if you'd read the various updates, you would have and should have known about it. It was widely publicized.
