Hi, I’m currently facing a very serious issue with eBay, which I find extremely unfair—especially considering I’ve been with them for 18 years without a single negative feedback.
I recently sold an Apple MacBook Pro 2024 for around £800. As soon as the item was delivered, the buyer opened a return case, falsely claiming the box was empty. I immediately provided strong evidence proving otherwise:
The Post Office confirmed the parcel weighed around 2000 grams at the time of posting.
My iCloud account was still logged into the laptop, showing that the device was being charged and used at the same delivery address.
I also filed two police reports, one with my local authority and one with Action Fraud, and submitted all this evidence to eBay.
Despite this, I’ve been calling eBay 5–6 times every day, with repeated promises of a callback that never came. Eventually, I was given an ultimatum: either refund the buyer 100% or 50%. Even though I accepted the return, eBay issued the buyer a return label which they never used. I never received the laptop back. In the end, I was left with just 50% of the sale price, while the buyer kept both the laptop and half of the money.
This outcome is incredibly unjust. eBay themselves admitted that the case was raised incorrectly by the buyer. They also told me that if the buyer wanted to appeal, they could potentially get a full refund—yet as the seller, I’ve been left with nothing but loss. I was even told that due to a “yearly threshold,” eBay cannot return more than 50% to me.
After nearly two decades of loyalty to eBay, I don’t believe I should be treated this way. This feels like being punished despite following all the rules and providing clear evidence.

I am not familiar with eBay rules in the UK, but here in the States if a buyer does not ship the item back (even if it is an empty box), then you do not need to do a refund.
Also, again here in the States, the 50% refund is only available to Top Rated Sellers who list with 30-day or longer returns, or for any seller who lists with free returns. All the listings I can see from you do not offer returns, so perhaps the rules in the UK are different.
Your situation might get clearer answers by posting on the UK boards for eBay: https://community.ebay.co.uk/
