I have a package that has been stuck in transit to Miami for a week. I decided to go on USPS site and get email updates to see if it would knock it into the system.
Use to be able to get tracking up until current date sent to your email immedately. That is no longer available. Here is what they have:
Select what types of updates you'd like to receive and how. Send me a notification for:

All Below UpdatesExpected Delivery UpdatesDay of Delivery UpdatesPackage DeliveredAvailable for PickupDelivery Exception UpdatesChecked "all below updates" and nothing has happened, 24 hours later, no emails or updates so that theory that it might knock the package back into tracking is out the window.I then decided to check the link with "Where is my package". I filled out the information and they gave me a case number and said they would be in touch through email. Wondering if anyone knows how long that takes.
I recentlly had a shipment delayed twice as long as it should have taken. In my case it kept going back and forth being Philadelphia and Jacksonville when it was supposed to go to Massena, NY.
I'm guessing that some areas of Florida are still struggling with the aftermath of the storm. It's hard to put an exact time for resolution, but you have put in all things necessary in place to get things moving.
I hope it gets to where it's supposed to soon. I know it's very frustrating.

My daughter had a domestic package sit at the local USPS distribution center for almost 2 weeks! That's ridiculous.

Buyer has not opened an INR case yet, it states in transit to Miami (for one week). It is going to a freight forwarder from what I can tell.

Print out the last update you have and take it to your local Post Office, they will track it for you and I have even had them to call the last updated Post Office for me. Don't know about you Post Office, but mine is very helpful. My Post Office told me that anytime you call the 800 number or e-mail them, they kick it back to your local Post Office for them to track. I have had packages stuck in transit before and just sit there, so I understand what your talking about. Good luck and I hope your local Post Office gives you the help you need.

Agreed.
Go into your PO branch and chat with the postmaster and have them check the tracking number you have and see what they can find out for you.
Just this last week I had them hunt down and attempt to correct the address of a package that just kept bouncing around New York City for a month. They can print out pictures of the package as it goes through the scanner so they can check the address and for damage. They can check who is handling it and recode the barcode if there is a problem.
My package had a corrupt barcode that kept telling the auto sort system to ship it to one place and that place had no address so the package would either sit in the branch or get tossed back into the system. I finally asked them to send it back after it made another trip to Queens and the address that was printed on it was perfect, somewhere a postal worker put a return to sender over it and never voided the barcode.
They finally imputted my address into the bar code and the item came back to me. I showed the package to my postmaster and they called the buyers postmaster and the problem isn't just a corrupt barcode, it seems that address has other reported problems, so the PO is looking into it.
Florida is still having problems so if you go to the PO and ask an actual person some questions, you might be able to find out if the package has to pass through or is going into an effected area and an actual projection as to when the package might be delivered. And you can have them send it back to you without recall. Use the phrase, if you can't get it figured out and delivered - I want it back. Worked for me.
All you will get from the website is the posted/canned website responses. The PO's internal system has a lot more detail about the scans.

If the buyer hasn't filed a case, there's no need to waste your time chasing the package.

That was never a valid theory, as far as getting packages "unstuck;" it simply created an immediate notification to you whenever the package did eventually turn up for a new scan. That was likely to happen sooner or later anyway, but some folks seemed to think that the notification signup itself had a physical effect on moving the package.
Anyway, you are correct that unfortunately the USPS has dumped that real-time tracking update option; now it's delivery-related and exception-related only. The one area where you can still get that detailed tracking automatically is for inbound packages to your address if you are a MyUSPS member, and if that disappears as well, I will not be surprised. (You can still see the detailed tracking anytime if you make your own one-time request on the USPS website.)
Why the USPS has decided to decrease their tracking service availability in the face of all their competition, I have no idea.

Well, I am surprised! I just received an email from PO stating that my package was delivered today at 2:05pm...no explanation as to where it has been or anything.
Wonder if it was because I opened a case for "Where is my package". Guess I will never know but oh so happy it has been delivered!

Great!
If you plug in your tracking number on https://www.usps.com/, are there any further details? It's possible that a smudged or illegible barcode went through the automatic scanners without registering, but the carrier can still type in the tracking number by hand on their scanner at delivery time if necessary.

I did plug in the tracking number on USPS and it is weird. It just goes from what it has said for a week...your package is in transit to Miami and late...you will be notified when there is an update. Then today the only other thing is after that it states your package was successfully delivered at 2:05pm.
No excuse, no howdy I was in circles, no nothing lol. Just glad it made it!
