I was written earlier today by the buyer with photos of the damaged item, but the buyer didn’t contact me for almost a week, what do I do? Am I responsible, should I refund (although my product has no refunds)?
I am also new at this.

How was it damaged?
When I get these type of request a week later, Im sure our first instinct was they didnt check right away! but to be fair a lot of my stuff I buy I sometimes dont check for a week or two sometimes a month..
No Return does not mean no refund.
If he opens a case item not as describe your still on the hook. Best is just accept return and wait for it back and see for yourself.

What does a week wait have to do with anything. Buyer goes on vacation for
7 days and comes home to a damaged packaged delivered while he was gone.
Just sayin.....

Are you satisfied with the photos that the item is damaged and that it is the item you sent? If you are satisfied then of course you should refund them and decide if you want to pay return shipping to get the item back. You could ask if they would accept a partial refund and they keep the item.
Once there is a return request through eBay they pretty much expect you to refund or they will refund on your behalf. You do not want eBay to force a refund from you.
A few weeks ago I received a return request for a $12 Hot Wheels that supposedly arrived damaged and did not roll. It was a 32 year old toy sealed in the package. The value was in its being in the package. If you were going to take it out of the package why not purchase one already out of the package for around $2.50 to $4.00. The vehicle rolled so freely within the package that I taped the ends of the package with blue painters tape to prevent the blister from cracking and shipped it in a box.
It cost me $4.38 plus 65¢ for a box to mail it and it would have cost me another $4.38 to get it back. I chose to cut my loss and just refunded without getting the item back.
