Package currently on a site seeing trip across America

I find this rather amusing. I'm in California and I ordered a pair of shoes from a seller located in New Jersey. Fed-Ex tracking shows that the shoes first went to Minnesota. Then Iowa. Then onto Nebraska. Then Colorado. And Arizona. And now the package is in Nevada.

Lol, is this normal for Fed-Ex? Or has the package been misdirected 6 times? Also, does Fed-Ex deliver on a Sunday? I'm asking this because I mistakenly gave our home mailing address instead of our safe and secure P.O. Box and I've been making sure that I'm home during delivery hours, so I can grab the package before the porch pirates do.

I have plans to go out tomorrow during the day, but if Fed-Ex does indeed deliver on Sundays I'll have to stay home. Does anyone know?

If you want, you can go to the fedex site and create a personal account (free). Once you do that, you can give online instructions for the driver to leave the package in a specified "hiding" place if you're not home, something other than on the porch if you're worried about porch pirates. You could instruct them to leave it behind the house in a sheltered spot like in a garbage can maybe?

I had a California-bound USPS package take a Hawaiian vacation earlier in the month.  It ended up being delivered just fine a couple of days later, but it gave my friends and I a good laugh and lots of jokes about how WE would love to have an unexpected Hawaiian vacation!

Fed Ex is the worst shipping service in the known universe. That is all.

FedEx doesn't deliver on Sundays. And I once had a package go to Puerto Rico too, I have no clue why.

>>FedEx doesn't deliver on Sundays.

If the OP's pkg is being shipped via FedEx SmartPost then it could be delivered on a Sunday, since USPS does last mile delivery and does deliver some things on Sundays, and more so during holiday seasons.

However, in years past, only Priority Express pkgs with extra Sunday delivery fee paid were delivered on Sundays, then the Amazon Sunday delivery deal added to that, then they added Sunday delivery for some services in most major cities year round, and are expanding Sunday delivery to more locations during this holiday season. So whether a particular location gets Sunday USPS pkg delivery depends on the where, and might also depend on the what (Parcel Select and Media Mail might be a low priority for Sunday delivery - unknown)

I would have thought FedEx might even do so for Ground and Express if it keeps things flowing, but apparently not.

They didn't even modify the normal Tues-Sat FedEx Home Delivery schedule due to Christmas Eve falling on Mon this year - that means the last FedEx residential ground deliveries for Christmas were on Saturday, so any residential ground shipments that didn't make it Sat won't be delivered until Wed at the earliest.

Commercial Ground and Smartpost will operate on Monday so those might make it for Christmas. (although Smartpost not so much as it has to be passed off to USPS early in the morning before carriers load out)

>>Lol, is this normal for Fed-Ex?

Not normal for FedEx (or any other carrier). Could be mis-routes, or could be intentional re-routing to to weather issues or hub congestion issues (they may have determined it would be better to vector a batch of pkgs south instead of west if the normal destination hub to the west is totally clogged with pkgs or snowed in).

Sometimes the long way is the short way.

>>if Fed-Ex does indeed deliver on Sundays I'll have to stay home. Does anyone know?

FedEx does not normally deliver on Sundays, and I've seen nothing to indicate they are changing that even for the busy holiday season. However, if it is FedEx Smartpost (a totally different animal than when someone says FedEx), it could, since USPS handles last mile delivery. But you would have to see a pass off to USPS on the tracking by now for that to happen.

As I mentioned in the previous post, if it is FedEx Home Delivery, from everything I see about FedEx published schedules, it wont be delivered until Wed at the earliest (FedEx Home Delivery is off on Mondays, it looks like FedEx did not make an exception for Christmas Eve falling on a Monday this year, and all FedEx services are closed Christmas Day)

Smartpost is open on Monday, but again, it would have to pass from FedEx to USPS early on Monday for your carrier to have it when he leaves for his route (unless you are in a location where they send "special" loads out with pkg deliveries when they are slammed)

So when your pkg will be delivered depends on what the tracking says this morning and what FedEx service we are talking about. (In Nevada last night at 5pm makes it unlikely it would make it to USPS wherever you are here in CA by now)

(There, that helped a bunch 🙂

Frequent Flyer Miles!  Too bad you can't cash in on that!

I've had packages go back and forth between a hub and the PO that is suppose to deliver a couple times before it gets delivered.

Change the channel!

Almost 30 yrs ago I paid $3.25 to send a priority package 300 miles in my state. It arrived a year later. It had been to all 50 states, Puerto Rico and hundreds of small towns. It has beat up and had tire tracks on it but the professional portraits inside were fine.

I am having the same poblem with USPS.  Bounced back and forth between Rhode Island and New Hampshire 6 times before they realized there was a problem and put an alert on it.  Then it disappeared into thin area because they have no clue where it is now.

Yes, especially is it's their Fedex Smart Dumb Post service. I have had packages arrive in California from the East coast in a couple of days and then bounce around in the LA area for 4 or 5 days, including back tracking to locations that are farther away from my address.

This time of year, the normal delievery hours and days are not normal. I have had things delivered as late as 9:00 PM and even on Sunday.

I too like using my safe and secure PO Box but ground shipping services will not deliever to it. Fedex Smart Dumb Post will because USPS makes final delivery but some sellers won't accept a PO box as a shipping because they don't know that.

Good luck and I hope your package had a good time on it's tour!

FedEx and UPS ground services have no problem delivering to my PO Box, because as a buyer, I'm smart enough to use street addressing.

Twenty years after my Grandmother passed away, her Alaska Magazines showed up in a bunch in my Mother's mail.

Apparently they had been living in some hidden recess in a PO in Texas for most of that time.

Oh, and my Grandmother and Mother lived in ND.

Why they even went to Texas was a mystery let alone the fact that they showed up 20 years later.

COYOTES RULE!!!

Thanks everyone for all your stories and explanations. As of today, the package is finally in my state, in a city not too far from me, so there's hope! I finished all my holiday shopping yesterday so didn't need to go anywhere today. And it's interesting that Fed-Ex works on Sundays, just like USPS.

BTW, mg152's comment for the win -- all 50 states and then some? That's just nuts!
