We sold an item airmail overseas, the buyer filed a inr claim on the eta date provided by ebay.
We deal with that close the claim, but I see an 'out of stock canceled transaction" defect?
We were never out of stock, dont know where that came from... so I appeal it.
Response from ebay
"We can not reverse this defect, because it counts as a negative shopping experience" ?????
"You can escalate or appeal, this decision is final" ???
"To avoid this happening in the future make sure you have items in stock" ?????
My brains melting reading that, where was I out of stock?
If during the COVID19 pandemic, ebay counts every late order, every inr claim by impatient buyers as an out of stock - we are ALL in trouble... really disappointed by this interaction. Basically its like saying we are printing shipping labels but not sending items... that makes zero sense...
Should I call and chase this down or is this pointless goose chase?

With all the nonsense eBay puts us through I would personally fight it. Especially if it has an impact on your account. It might be a miserable fight though.

Are you positive it is on the same transaction? There is a report you can get on your seller dashboard to tell you exactly which listing it is on. Did you review that report?

Welcome to eBay, a problem happens and they have no way to update their software to deal with it.
Sorry this happened to you. I doubt you will get any were with them, but I could be wrong.
Protection due to Virus, or the other problems with Postal systems.... It seems not to be happening.
Did they ever receive the item???
If they do file a appeal.

You are making assumptions without enough facts. From the response they got on the appeal, you can not tell if it was on the same transaction as the INR was. We can't know that unless the seller goes and finds out specifically which listing the cancellation pertained to as I previously suggested.

Report says Transaction cancellation channel: Paypal
But I never canceled anything, just the ebay inr open then closed case.
Response denial of appeal came in all Spanish (which I had to translate)
Bizarre 20 years I have never had this issue .

Re read and agreed. The INR case may not be the "out of stock canceled transaction" .
This with the new method of canceling an auction is done with checking the wrong box for reason.
Put then again in this case may not be the cause.
As for the INR case, if item made it there, an appeal on that should be done.
So we do need more information.

If your shipment was to a Spanish speaking country, it could be why you received the appeal results in Spanish. I had a case in France, the appeal info was sent to me in French.

I suppose if there aren't any 'hey that happened to me too', then maybe its fluke once every 20 year event.

Here's my opinion. The buyer didn't get the item.
It doesn't matter if they didn't get it because it was out of stock or you never shipped it or it was lost in the mail. When the item isn't received and you have to refund their payment it is a negative buying experience. Negative buying experiences impact your service metrics.
I don't believe you'll win an appeal. Accept the out of stock reason. They can restore the out of stock defect but then they'll just replace it with an item not received defect. I say let it go.

That doesn't make sense. Are you sure you looked at the report you can get from your Seller Dashboard? There should be no mention of PP at all.
Let's see if this helps.
You need to look at this to get the actual details of what is actually affecting your account. This report will tell you exactly which transaction or transactions [if any] are involved.
I agree something is odd here, but we need to know more information to help you.

You can't appeal an INR if you voluntarily refunded.

Honestly some posters seem more interested in invalidating posts rather than helping. 'somethings off, something doesn't add up, not right, out of stock and inrs are same thing so let it go' very helpful as always.

Hi @valuestore, I've reviewed your account but I'm not seeing an 'out of stock' defect. Is this the account you received it on or was it a different account?

That is not it at all. Without complete information you can't get the proper help. You can get guesses and opinions, but if you want to get actual help with a situation you find yourself in, you have to give the details.
You had claimed you had gotten a "defect". If that is accurate, it would show on your dashboard as I previously gave you a pic of. And you could find out from the report on the Dashboard exactly which transaction or transactions that caused the defect.
So unless you take a peek at your Dashboard, we can know what is causing your defect. I see Brian popped in and he took a look, he is seeing no defects on your account. So that is clearly VERY good news. This is something we could have helped you with had you of taken a peek at your Dashboard as was suggested several posts back. But with that said at least you know now you account is just fine and you don't have any defects to worry about.
