Original, genuine items getting removed when not counterfeit

Stop selling items that are often counterfeited?

@409brown

If Ebay decides they are counterfeit, that's their final word.  It know it doesn't sound fair, but it's their site, their rules.  Don't relist them and jeopardize your account either.  You want to continue to be able to sell.

Good luck with future sales.

Ebays Staff  who decides item are counterfeit needs to be trained better! And the Bot nonsense has to Stop. They have no idea what they are doing. I am an expert with 40+ years experience (I started collecting  in 1974 and have been a dealer since 1991) and they think they know more than the most experienced sellers here.

Oh and anything can be counterfeited but most thing's are NOT.  Its not cost effective.

Ebay needs a more educated  staff and not some stupid bot making erroneous decisions. Or some novice buyers telling ebay your item is not real. Stop it and get an education on what your deciding to remove and collecting.

Sounds good and I agree with you, but that will never happen.  Too costly.

I totally agree. In most cases they are not counterfeit.  However, the chances ebay spending the money to train people better ranks right up their with better customer service agents along with lower fees and we all know that's probably not going to happen.  But it is a very good idea and should be a priority.  When a seller doesn't make a sale, they don't get paid... neither does ebay.  Thanks for your input. It's appreciated.

Don’t list as ‘New in Box’ and then say there is no box.

How did you acquire multiple bottles of multiple brands of perfume, all without their box?

That would depend almost entirely upon what items are being removed. You'll have to give us an example of some of the items that you are having trouble with.

A number of sellers have come here with the same claim only to find that their items are counterfeit or there were other obvious things about the listing that violated policy or made them appear counterfeit.

I would guess eBay's concerns have more to do with legal liability here than not wanting to spend money on training people. Their shotgun approach looks similar to the way YouTube takes down videos on copyright claims when it's clear the content legally falls under Fair Use.

The risks are far less with taking a "guilty until proven innocent" route. In fact, there is no need for them to entertain notions of innocence or guilt at all. Corporations don't care one iota about fairness, truth, doing the right thing whatever that might be, or the presumption of innocence [add your own basic human decency value here] if the potential risks and costs to their bottom line are at stake.

And they wounder why eBay thinks the stuff is fake... Hmmmmm.....

Just saying:

New with box: A brand-new, unused, and unworn item (including handmade items) in the original ...

THEN description says...

ITEM SOLD WITHOUT BOX
And you wounder why they think its fake????

Exactly.

Not only that, but the DMCA grants eBay safe harbor from liability arising from sellers action as long as eBay does *not* try to use it's own judgement to determine that an item is legitimate.

You can't stop it.  Resistance is futile.  But it really depends upon what you are selling.  For example, womens beauty products have astronomically high profit margins and those brands are very protective of those products. What they are selling is usually just a bottle or container containing pennies worth of product and, led by Chanel, they have argued that if the item is not sold by an approved vendor then it can be considered counterfeit as the experience of purchasing from some anonymous Ebay seller hurts the brand.  And this goes for other high priced high margins categories as well such as handbags and sneakers.  There is a similar trend as corporations begin to resell their used merchandise and don't want competition.

Sell it as used, pre-owned, etc.  Selling it as "new" is what is creating your issues.

As regards parfums, fragrances - can you sell used in that category any longer?  Thought that changed and you cannot?  As you are in the UK, not certain what rules apply.

You are selling high end perfumes as new in box and then saying they do not have the box in the description.

That appears highly sketchy
