Order Cancellations Ramping Up? Possible solution

I have been noticing the number of buyers who have ALREADY PAID for an order and then later requesting to cancel ramping up, 3 so far this weekend...

1 Ebay policy used to state it is a binding contract.

2 The reason option does not always reflect the accurate reason.

3 I have been noticing this ramping up since ebay changed the appearance of a sellers listing that will run on the listing showing even direct competitors listings where it may or may not be cheaper and as human nature works most will go for the cheapest possible, I am guilty as well...however.. before this change when only your listing would appear without exposure to competitors listings there was very few cancellations only every now and then...

4 I am sure there are times where it is legit...but when one orders and pays for an item and then uses the reason "ordered by mistake" I question that how does one find your item purchases and pays for it and then later wants to cancel it...I am not buying it! I put myself in their position, do I go into a store find and buy and pay for an item which obviously is not a mistake, and then later want to cancel it say I ordered it by mistake....

So I have a thought on those order as well as stating it in the store policy area that all paid for orders requesting cancellation may be subject to a 2% fee, which will cover the time spent buy seller to process the order...sellers must also consider that when ebay transfers the money to your bank, that a number of banks charge a fee for each transaction...so for one cancellation it would equal 2 bank transactions, 1 coming and one going and the banks do not refund you, while ebay does on their fees.

I also think this will slow down the increasing rate of cancellations.

This would only apply to paid transactions and those that are unpaid are simply cancelled, which does make sense, as if they ordered it by mistake obviously they would not pay for it.

sounds like a "restocking fee" that was eliminated by eBay, but you can give that 2% unenforcable policy a shot.

If you accept bank cards which we all do here a consumer can cancel the order.  That's that.  Nothing else matters, that's set down by banks.  I can go to Autozone buy something, pay with a card, walk right over to the service desk and say, I dont want it, and they refund my card.  Yep, for Autozone that's two transactions and the terms thereof are set forth by their merchant account provider.  Nothing they can do about it short of reserving the right to do future business with me just as you can here by blocking the buyer.

I'd also like to tack-on a 2% fee for anyone who doesn't know how to use the cart, which will cover the time spent by me processing their separate orders, and paying the individual per-order fees.  This is about as likely as Santa bringing me that unicorn I asked for this Christmas.

Maybe it is a good time to rally the sellers to get ebay to reinstate the "restocking fee"

It has ramped up due to ebay showing buyers other sellers selling the same thing on the item page and at checkout, I even heard after checkout. So it leads to a lot of canceled orders and is a great race to the bottom.

I think a lot of the reasons for buyers canceling orders is Ebay showing them cheaper items after they place the order.

If you ordered an item, then you were shown 4 or 5 cheaper items, wouldn't you want the cheaper ones?

Have a great day.

It's also possible that people are sobering up much sooner after making an on-line purchase.

You said a mouthful there and it is entirely due to ebay...since they added the cart it has never worked properly and the buyers AND sellers are left clueless at how to figure it out, half the time they do not even read descriptions, let alone figuring out the cart with 4 flat tires...Those of us, both buyers and sellers who have been on here before the cart...it was pretty straight forward, simple and easy with the biggest issue being a buyer not paying for the order...you know what they say about the inmates...It is strange that as far as I know none of the other platforms I have bought items from do not have this issue...but only on ebay.

@quicksilverdiecast

Are these cancellation requests coming from buyers who made offers and  were "autobilled"?  I ask only because you use the Best Offer feature, retain the default settings eBay placed on your accounts that basically prohibit combined orders. Buyers are NOT told this in advance, and it has been causing some problems.
Buyers are not prohibited in requesting cancellations. There are no limits as to how many times they can do so.

You, however, are generally not forced to comply.

The cart doesn't have 4 flat tires.  It just has one wheel that always points sideways.
