One in HOW many buyers???

OK, someone explain this to me again.

EBay claim to have over 130 million subscribers.

As they say, and I quote from their own published statistics here:

  • There are a whopping 100 million visitors each month to eBay. That’s 100 million potential visitors to your product listings.

100 million visitors eh?

So, I post a listing for a Matchbox "Vauxhall Cresta"........and after a few days see a total of ONE view, and that, presumably, only because I paid  $2.99 for a supposedly "promoted" listing. Other non-promoted listings show "NO views!" -  which is normal - right? (even when it shows 'watchers?' How exactly do they 'watch' it without 'viewing' it?)

Can't be because it's "too expensive" or "crappy photography."  It certainly isn't due to "lack of detail" or

"Disinterest" in diecast cars.....because ONLY ONE PERSON (out of 130,000,000 IN THE WORLD (forty plus million in the US alone)  HAS EVEN SEEN IT!"

'One view' out of  that many active buyers is just not possible. (Unless of course, most of them cannot SEE the listing for whatever reason! which I suspect is the true reason)

When I began selling cars like this in the early 2000's, there were normally a few views moments after I posted  it. After a few days, there were usually 150-200 views (often, way more) with many watchers. This was the norm until 2015-16 when it began to slacken off. By 2020  the first day might net 30 views......so here we are now with a highly saleable  Vauxhall Cresta and  just the one view!

Oh yeah, and plus the questionable decision by Ebay to take a commission for God's sake, from the sales tax and shipping costs," NEITHER OF WHICH are income.

That may actually be the problem. If your price is too low compared to the average, it makes people think there's something wrong with the item.

As one of those 130 million subscribers I would like to mention that :

I have no interest in dicast cars

I have never seen a Vauxhall Crest which I can only presume is an antique model

On the other hand, when I go to Science Fiction conventions, everyone recognizes my  Kaylee cosplay (mechanic version- I can't afford the gown).

If you can't immediately identify which SF/F fandom I belong too, then you are not likely to be interested in my "NightSweetie" badge either.

From a seller's viewpoint -- remember you only pay for the Promoted Listing Standard if the item sells. If you are using one of the other versions you are wasting money.
EBay is not your friend, eBay is your landlord.

Can anyone explain that if it has nothing to do with eBay interference?  Just had a sale on Marketplace yesterday & have 3 buyers set up to come pick up over the weekend.

Yes, I can explain that. You are offering free shipping on FB but on Ebay your shipping cost is more than the item and outrageously priced. Unfortunately for you your shipping is from another Country.

@sakic92710   Easy one. That is because the other seller is crazy and will never sell their item. I can search easily for anything I sell and there will be at least 3 of them that sellers are asking 5x more than I am asking. Theirs sit for years and never sell. I always wonder why people waste their time on Ebay. I suppose it gives them a warm fuzzy to think they have thousands in merchandise. Maybe for insurance purposes in the event the item gets destroyed in a fire or earthquake ?

100 million monthly visitors doesn't mean 100 million monthly buyers. There are tens of millions of folks who visit eBay every month (and probably every day) who have no intention of buying anything, they are sellers running their businesses. You also have the window shopper/looky-loo types which probably run into the millions each month as well. If eBay subtracted non-buying sellers and looky-loos from their tally and only counted visitors that actually make a purchase the real total is probably significantly less than 50 million per month.

You are completely missing the point, as usual.  It's not about the price.  It is about the fact is it 1 of the most popular superheroes & it is an item in limited supply.  Even though it hasn't sold, there should be MANY who would check out the listing because of his popularity.  A very popular character; hard to find artwork; advertising piece all add up to interested eyeballs.  No one is looking at the listing?  Nonsense.

Not obvious to me, when you consider that sellers on FBM are allowed to ship. If you restrict yourself to Local, that is on you....but if I am on ebay and restrict an item to Local Pickup only, that will reduce the number of prospective buyers as well.

Again - you don't know what you are talking about.  Free shipping on FB?  Wrong.  Buyer pays for shipping if I need to mail something.  Too bad eBay community would just remove anything I REALLY wish to say to you.  lol

I do not restrict myself to local buyers on FBM.  I have yet to come across 1 buyer from the US.  Everyone is local or within Ontario except for the rare exception.

Do you know how low ebay is on the most popular websites lists?  I looked at one the other day and there are 4 or 5 porn sites way ahead of ebay.  Along with, of course, the usual top sites.   I believe ebay was in the 30s or so.

Well, try adding a beautiful woman in a bikini holding item, or a nice looking guy w 6 pack abs.LOL…Sex sells…..1st, ppl can watch an item without clicking on it by clicking the heart on outside..so it’s possible to have 2 watchers and no views.. 2nd.  Sell items that other ppl would like..not what you like,or you think is great..a lot of ppl don’t have extra money right now so they are real selective…

I deal in so many different things, sports cards, non sport, coins, vintage paper money, gold,silver..and yes I have a lot of items with very little views, but I do sell a lot of stuff as you can see in my sold listings..and I don’t sell anything really under $15. I take good pics, let ppl make offers no matter how rediculous they may be,and I also have over 300 followers from past sales..I send a lot of free stuff out to buyers..it makes a big difference.I’m not greedy,I’m greatful.
Try thinking out of the box when listing your items, make it fun or interesting, you will get the views. If diecast isn’t moving. Try something else…with that I say….I didn’t kill Kenny..lol

To you it is very popular and worth hundreds. To 99.9% of collectors it is not worth the asking price. There is a big difference between what a seller "thinks" something is worth and what a buyer is wiling to pay.

@sakic92710  If you don't restrict your FBM listings to local, then how am I wrong to state the number of active accounts?

Basically you are saying something similar to coolections point: Your buyers would prefer not to pay shipping, and local pickup saves them money. Not to mention they can presumably inspect the item at the time of purchase.

How many in the US even look at Canadian FB ads?  lol  Of course the number of accounts is completely irrelevant.

LOL! As is the number of ebay accounts---completely irrelevant----how many in the US even look at Canadian listings? Especially if the perception (right or wrong) is the shipping is high and delivery time is long?
