On the matter of Shiny Objects:

Over the past few weeks everybody was moaning and groaning over the requirement for free returns.

Then the sales tax decision comes down and now that is front and center and returns seems to have dropped off the radar.

And in due course another shiny object will come along and we will be off on a different tangent.

Cause let’s face it - there ain’t nothing any of us can do about any of it (well, except take our ball and go home).

In the classic words of Bette Davis “Buckle your seat belts - it’s going to be a bumpy ride”.

BTW I just noticed: I used to be a "Trailblazer", now I'm a "Guide" - is that a step up or a step down?

"Laissez-faire capitalism (AKA The Great Material Continuum) is the only social system based on the recognition of individual rights and, therefore, the only system that bans force from social relationships." ~ Ayn Rand

Wondering what the eBay Community ranks are, how to move up and what rank you are currently? Read on. We’ll explain more.

Most online Communities have a ranking system which helps identify who users are within the Community.

You can find your current rank shown under your eBay user ID on your Community profile page (as shown in the highlighted box below).

About_alan_ebay_-_The_eBay_Community.png

What do the ranks indicate?

Ranks are an indication of your activity and contribution on the Community platform.

How do I move up the ranks?
Your rank is all about activity and engagement in the Community. New Community users will start out with the 'Enthusiast' rank, and as they spend more time in the Community and begin to contribute, they will move up the ranks. While our formula may be a tightly kept secret, doing the following things can help you move up:

- Starting topics

- Replying to topics

- Receiving Helpfuls on your posts

- Adding Helpfuls to posts you find helpful
- Posting great information that is marked as an Accepted Solution

- Posting great information that results in you being recognized as a contributor to a Knowledge Base article.

What are the ranks?

Legend
Visionary
Superstar
Rockstar
Guide
Trailblazer
Thrill-Seeker
Scout
Adventurer
Rising Star
Pathfinder
Explorer
Enthusiast
What are the badges and how do I earn new ones?

Badges recognize your great work and our appreciation. We know that many of you contribute your valuable time and expertise posting answers and helpful information for other eBay members.

Badges are earned for various activities and milestones reached in the Community. For example, there are badges that recognize how long you’ve been a Community member and there are badges that recognize the amount of replies and posts that you have authored.

You can see the full list of badges when you click on your profile page. The ones you’ve earned are in full color, the ones yet to be earned are grayed out.

We hope that you found this information valuable, don't forget to Helpful posts you find helpful and mark posts as Accepted Solutions if they help to answer your questions.

Thanks.

I congratulate you upon your elevation to this exalted title, which I trust you will now proudly display at your home, work and on your vehicle.

This title has been bestowed upon you in recognition of your untiring effort and hard work.

The highest ranking I've seen here is Rockstar. How long before one of you guys are promoted to "Legend"? Let's have a party when it happens!

Probably reserved for those folks who were invited to the M2M board.

I can't take it...just fell on the floor screaming with laughter. Best reply in the last month. We need more insane laughter here. The part about the vehicle was priceless. And...can anyone tell me why I have a badge "Brainiac?" lololol. Who thinks these up? Thank you thank you.

Hopefully it's interns and not full time employees.

On the matter of Shiny Objects:

It should almost be intuitively obvious the Badges are meant to be goals worthy of attainment as they impart the easily recognized ascending steps in logical evolution from one Badge to another.

I purposely did not read the list because I must admit I did not quite grasp that any were of such a sought after next level and more prestigious compared to the one prior.

I see these Badges as stepping stones to success and fame. Why just the other day I mentioned the Badges in the Pilot's Lounge of a general aviation airport and was immediately offered coffee and access to the weather maps... after paying the fuel bill.

I want to be a rockstar.  I would be a ranger, patoie on most druids.  Self-serving tree hugging bear shaping miscreants.
