On a return, when is top-rated status calculated?

I'm one sale short of keeping top rated for the next month. I had a buyer buy 8 days before the evaluation and start a return 2 days before the evaluation, so I'm still top rated now, but when the item arrives I won't be.

Is getting the ability to deduct money from the refund dependent on the sale date, return start date or return delivery date?

thats a real good question,I get plenty of returns and am waiting on one to come back so the negative will be removed.I have never held back money on a return,the time limit is way up there now,you could be waiting till the fall,seriously

I have no idea what happens when you status changes during an extended return which is the direction  ebay has taken

ebay has made no announcement that I have seen as to how long the extensions will be in place
