So doing listings last night... at 10pm EDT listed a set for $130.
Received offer today for $80.
Replied back that I can do $115, no less, most have sold for at least $115.
Buyer replies that they are buying them for $90 (didn't seem mad, just a little miffed that I didn't give the deal).
TEN MINUTES after they sent that, it sold full price! I could have lost $50 if I took that deal.

Or it could have languished unsold for the next two years.

Well good for you "C"!
Seems like you've been having alot of activity with the night buyers lately. Glad it went well.

Things like this are why I quit using OBO a long time ago. I simply got tired of all the crazy offers and the back and forth bartering. I have better things to do with my time.

Many years ago, I auctioned an old book for $200. I would have been happy with that. I got a message offering me $1000 to sell it straight out. Tempted, but I declined.
Sold for $3,200.

This happens to some of my items. I just think it's ironic that 10 minutes after someone complained about the price it sold at full price.
I have learnt that if something is languishing in the unsold category for too long, do not lower the price. End the listing, and relist it at the new price.

Most of my sales are between 10am and 7am EDT. (That could be early evening in California though... but there are numerous times that my eBay bell wakes me up in the middle of the night). I haven't silenced the phone because I like to be notified, and if I'm in a deep sleep it won't actually wake me.

There was no OBO, he went to the listing and sent a message that came with the subject "make an offer". eBay lets them make offers even though I don't have BO activated.

I love it when that happens! 😃
A similar thing happened to me recently.
I denied the persons offer, then a few days later they wanted to buy it at full price ... but it was SOLD OUT!

Sold for $3,200.
Generally I reply that items are auction only, and please bid if you want it. Alternatively I just ignore those messages.
I think only ONCE in my whole tenure here did someone send me an offer that was significantly more than what the ending price was at auction.
I'd also be super nervous on a $3200 sale... even on a low scam item. I removed most of my more expensive coins some months ago (there's a few occasional ones listed that were missed, or I was less nervous about listing them).

I've noticed often when you get an offer or message for an item it seems to shortly after sell for full price to someone else, no rhyme or reason to it, its just good luck.

I offered $120 for a pan that was starting on auction for $50. The seller countered with $400. It sold for $100. Like Angelno said, Life is like a box of chocolates.
Congrats on the sale!

I have an item up for auction with a starting bid of 9.99. I get a message from someone saying I'll give you $5 for it. I checked and it already had a bid. Some people aren't too bright I guess 😄

My thinking is it's showing interest. So eBay either gives it better placement for a bit or sends out notices that it's still available or going fast to people that are watching or showed interest in the past. Or both.
I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing somewhat happens when you send offers out on the item too.

So I began an auction at $200 and they bid it up to $3,200. You think I should have cancelled the sale?
