Offer to Watchers Question

This question is for sellers who have used the "offer to watchers" feature.  I have sent out quite a few of them and I noticed that say a listing has 5 watchers, sometimes when I send the offer out, it says the offer will be sent to say 2 buyers.  It's rarely the actual number of watchers that eBay says are watching my item.  Why is this happening?  Does eBay not change the watch count if a buyers takes my item off their list?  If that is the case, it makes the watch count rather deceptive and makes me think I'm not doing as well as I thought with visibility!

Any insights?  Thanks!

Offer to Watchers Question

"I have sent out quite a few of them and I noticed that say a listing has 5 watchers, sometimes when I send the offer out, it says the offer will be sent to say 2 buyers.  It's rarely the actual number of watchers that eBay says are watching my item.  Why is this happening?"

Watchers and eligible watchers are two different things. If a watcher is on your Blocked Bidder List, he won't get one. If he has signed up to refuse such notices, he won't get one. And I believe there are other factors as well, for example, ebay may limit the total number of offers a particular buyer gets from all sellers within a time frame.  It is nothing to worry about.

"Does eBay not change the watch count if a buyers takes my item off their list?"

Yes, but that has nothing to do with this really. If the buyer takes your item off their list, the buyer won't be shown as a watcher, period. That's not the issue. The issue is, the buyer can sign up to be placed on what amounts to eBay's version of a "do not call " list....the buyer doesn't want people sending him offers, period.  He is still watching your item, he could still buy it or make an offer to you, but he does not want people sending him an offer.

Hope that helps.

"If that is the case, it makes the watch count rather deceptive and makes me think I'm not doing as well as I thought with visibility!"

As I explain above, that is not the case.

Short answer: If you want to send an offer, send it to whoever ebay is sending it to and don't worry about why it's 2 people rather than 5. Just hope for a sale.

Offer to Watchers Question

Received a offer just the other day, this feature didn't do what it was supposedly to do , ebay would only allow me to purchase the item which was unsold at the full price & not the discounted offer price

EBay .cs could do nothing to make it work.

Offer to Watchers Question

I've had buyers take advantage of the offers a total of three times only....I have sent out many many offers.  I wish they would let me know if it doesn't work!

During my attempt to purchase

EBay buying cs, after investigating, said the seller was at fault the offer to watchers is not functioning appropriately.

EBay selling cs however said the seller was not at fault, but that it was a ebay issue.

My position:

If ebay was at fault,  good customer service would be to allow  purchase of the item at full price, but receive a ebay courtesy coupon refund issued at some latter date, so effectively the buyer would then be paying a seller's offer price to watchers.

Offer to Watchers Question

Buyers can opt out of receiving offers, plus ebay reserves the right NOT to send an offer to buyers who don't meet criteria that indicates they may buy....... so often the # sent will not equal the # of watchers.........

Ed, sorry that happened.  Maybe a glitch?  You might try switching browsers, that might work?  FWIW I received offers and bought with no problem.  I am using Chrome.

It might be that the offer expired.  There are time limits on them.

Offer to Watchers Question

I have the same issue. Several watchers but when I send an offer, it is available to 1 or 2 of them. The others are not blocked. Do buyers have to opt in to receive offers? Or is it because they are in other countries where the cannot receive offers? Is this option available on all Ebay sites (eg UK, Germany, et al) for US sellers?
