Just before Christmas my "number of items sold" was displayed on my listing as about 7,500. What a shock when I discovered eBay had tinkered with something and LOST over 5,000 of my items sold!!! I've called 5 times, was promised an email from Tech that I never received, and even sent a letter (with photographs) to eBay Corporate office and STILL no answer.
I sew things and fabric patterns change about once a year. This morning I discovered that if I sell out of a pattern and remove it from the variation listing it ALSO removes all the sales for that item!! So, if I sell out eBay says I never sold any of it?? What sort of convoluted logic is that?
Attn. Tech Team - It's just a counter!!! Fix the darn thing!!
If eBay wants to continue running down my sales numbers then perhaps I should run my items right off eBay.

I don't see anything to fix here. If you want to keep the sales history on the listing- don't remove the pattern variation from the listing- leave it as out of stock and just add your new patterns.
Retaining a visible sales history of 2,500 items is still really strong. Buyers looking at a listing won't care if it says 2,500 sold or 7,500 sold.

I have the same issue as you. Albeit have not sold nearly as much as you have but I can’t seem to get my count up because they’re not calculating it correctly. if I sell four or five items one will be added. I keep track of everything I’ve sold on another site and it’s at least double then what they’re showing.

The phone reps have a terrible reputation for getting you off the phone as soon as possible even if that means giving you the advice you want to hear instead of the advice you need to have.

The social media Chat accounts are covered by trained eBay employees with some authority.
And you get a transcript so you can compare what you heard with what you were told.
