Number of items in a listing counted towards the GTC total per month

This last month I deliberately reduced  my free listings under 250 per month to reduce the risk of eBay charging me for extra listings. I discovered that though not written anywhere eBay counts the quantities availabe for sale not just the listings, and charges per items, though that is not how it is all marketed. Nice folks running the show, huh?

As a seller who has happily used GTC for years as our only listing duration, this is not true ... we have many listings with multiple quantities, and even some listings with dozens of available quantity.

I do variation listings - I usually only have ONE of many varieties of the same thing: all rings, all bracelets, etc. I have not seen that a listing for 20 different items cost more - just the charge for ONE big listing - but it does go towards my total listing limit.  They count as 20 items not one.

That's always been the case, with my listings at least.

Whenever I listed say a bowl and have a quantity of 6 of said bowl, my count of free listing shows 6 listings used not just one.

Even before the GTC took effect.

... contact customer service and request basic store limits increase.  they can up the total number of items per listing.  ask while on phone re the multi-quantity listings counting as multiple listings, they should not.  if they say they do then have them send you a copy or link to the policy that states they do.

Re: Number of items in a listing counted towards the GTC total per month

... further

ebay sets buyer limits on number of listings and intitally counts each "ITEM" as a listing.  that is why you call and increase the number of items, which they are general happy to do for you.  then if you have 250 listings, but 400 total items it still counts as 250 listings.  initially defaults are set to like 250 listings 250 items so that any additional items count as additional listings and they get to charge the "listing fees" for the surplus number of items.

You must have a very unique eBay account because this is not the way things work!

The number of items in a multi-quantity listing affect your LISTING LIMITS but they have NO IMPACT WHATSOEVER on fees!

A Variation listing with dozens of individual choices and/or a Multi-Quantity listing with a quantity in the 100's, these all count and are billed as a SINGLE listing with a SINGLE listing fee that is exactly the same as a listing for a single item and a quantity of one.

Re: Number of items in a listing counted towards the GTC total per month

it does work that way until you call ebay c/s and have them up the limits for number of items.  a brand new account gets   xx number of listings free; xx also equals TOTAL items.  so you call and have them up the limits which they are generally very happy to do for you

... and yes, it does affect fees.  once your total free listings/items count exceeds limits, anything you list additional is AT COST.

Hi @mdrca, I'd like to offer some clarity on this. A listing with multiple quantity only counts towards one insertion fee or one free listing if available. For example, if a single listing has a quantity of 20 then that listing will be charged one insertion fee or count as one of your free listings, not 20.

In regard to monthly selling limits, the total quantity in each listing is counted towards that listing limit. So, if you have a monthly limit of 100 and have two items each with a quantity of 50 then you would hit your 100 listing monthly limit since the total quantity is 100. These two items would only count towards two of your free listings though since they are only two listing.

Let me know if I can clarify this further!

@rixstuff

You aren't talking about "listing limit", you are talking about a selling limits.  There is a difference.

For those that feel their selling limits are too low or want to increase them, you can call Ebay once every thirty days and ask them to increase your selling limit [$$$$] and they will as long as your account is in good standing.

Re: Number of items in a listing counted towards the GTC total per month

Thank you for the screen shot.  That is very informative.  I stand corrected, I was not aware, before your post, that there were limits on number of listings.  But clearly for some there are.  Thank you again for sharing this information.

Yes, you can call once every 30 days and if your account is in good standing, Ebay will typically raise your limits.  You can continue to do this until you have your limits within a very comfortable range for yourself.
