Now That October Is Over, How Much Were You Down? Worst Month?

A lot of people say October was the worst month this year, I am in that boat. I think eBay would agree, especially after they sent out those $5 off coupons last week.

What about you? Was this the worst month? How much were you down? If not October, which month was your worst?

I was down 47% last month, by far my worst this year.

October started out at a snail's pace  but picked up the closer it got to Halloween . November  so far  is impressive  across  both selling venues  I use.  However this is pretty  typical  of every year at this time.  Tulips

I do not think it is us.

I think it is a combination of many states (11 ?)  with sales tax kicking in on OCT  1st, glitches between PP - eBay payments (reported, and confirmed) during the 1st part of the month, and overall search problems.

I think if the extra taxes are to blame for the current  drop in sales,  it won't last and buyers will get used to it . Not sure if you remember when people  got so upset when gasoline reached a dollar a gallon  ,, but nobody stopped  buying gas . It sure would be nice to have those prices  back again. Tulips

Every one of these 'Tax Cuts' was designed for the wealthy, and those who make passive (not from work) income, like stock holders & CEOs who get options, etc. The average worker's buying power has gone down... Economic disparity is at an all time high, w/ the top 1% having more wealth than the bottom 90%... That bottom 90% are the folks who, during the Clinton years, rose thru the middle class ranks... They spent on fun & luxury items & wanted to make their homes look nice... The middle class is almost gone... Yet the low info keep voting for these rich liars who design policy to benefit themselves & their wealthy donors...  echo and zip

None of that is true . U.S income  Wages have increased 5,000 dollars a year  across the board ,, 6,000 a year if you count the tax cuts . Tulips

Trump donates his presidential salary . He doesn't keep one dime and he's the very first POTUS in history  to do that .  It would probably be better  if you did a bit of research  before you post  things  like that .  Tulips

Yeah, I don't get it, why are Americans so adamant on defending the rich anyway? And why on earth do the American people think that propping up the elite will somehow better their own lives; it clearly has not. The economic divide in the U.S. is disgraceful.

That tax bill was the biggest fraud on the American people I've ever seen. That is, next to the corporate and bank bailouts that both Bush and Obama allowed to happen. The bank execs took the money and wrote themselves billions of dollars in bonus checks.

A lot of people ended up getting no tax refund this year, and many more ended up paying a lot more on their taxes. And yet, ebay sellers can't figure out why sales are so bad.

Americans should do themselves a favor and stop feeding into all this political brainwash from the media and corrupt political leaders who're only in it for themselves.

Most people do not consider eBay to be like Amazon. Amazon is mostly new items. eBay has always been more like a big garage sale. Items have not been taxed in eBay for years. A big change like that does affect sales. I hear a lot of talk from people that say tax should not be charged again on resale items, and that is the reason they have stopped buying on eBay. Not eBay's fault but the government wanting more money.

Starting through the major sectors of the economy, consumer spending has been a solid foundation for our economic growth. Consumer spending has increased by 3.9% over the past 12 months, with the most recent four months even better. Disposable income grew even faster, up 4.7%, bringing the savings rate up. This sets the foundation for solid growth in the future. Bill Conerly - leadership strategist ---------------------

Re: Now That October Is Over, How Much Were You Down? Worst Month?

What is the difference between paying sales tax at the local thrift store and paying sales tax on eBay??   I've never heard anyone complain about paying sales tax st the thrift store.

Besides,  much of what is sold on eBay today is new stuff and not used or vintage.    I see no good reason why large scale ecommerce sites should be exempt from collecting sales tax.

I've been on eBay for 20 years - 17 of which I collected sales tax in VA, and 3 in FL.   I've seen no evidence that this impacted my sales in my home state.

Every POTUS  this nation has ever had has been wealthy  with perhaps the exception of Abe Lincoln .  In any regard  its very unlikely  the American voters  are trying to '' defend ''  the rich.  What they are doing is investing  in sound political policies and methods that are provenly  bettering their lives .  Tulips

Our current president donates his entire presidential salary of over 400,000 dollars a year . A person wouldn't do that if they were only in it for themselves .  If you wish you can fact check that . Believe me when I say the mainstream left leaning  media already has . Tulips

We are NOT in a recession - other ecommerce sites are growing very well.   Even some sellers say they are still doing well here.

But I agree it is not me - too many other longtime eBay sellers have also been impacted by the machinations of ebay this year.

I seriously doubt that the top 5% have ever purchased much of anything on eBay.  And they certainly don't have all the wealth.   kathiescorner ------------------------

True ,, if the U.S economy was going downhill  as its been falsely  claimed  then sellers  everywhere would be doing poorly on every selling venue  and not just here on e bay.  It's also probably very  true  that the top 5 % wage earners  aren't doing their shopping on e bay .  They have an entirely different way of life  than average Americans   . Re: Now That October Is Over, How Much Were You Down? Worst Month?

Sales have been horrible for months. I did better during the recession. I don't see it getting better, so many more choices for internet shopping. And eBay doesn't seem to put forth any effort to help sellers. So here we are 10 years later. Sales from over $30,000 to less than $5000. Seems like this percentage drop is the norm.

For October: Up 12% (5600 ly, 6300 ty)- Automotive after market parts for Show Cars- although YTD down 21%. I blame it on us- no new products past 2 years and car shows have gone down over 50% in Cali alone.

The first half of October was tough but we did some tweaking and the second half was much better. Not horrible. About the same as last year (but we have about 20% more items up).

This is not true, as is indicated by this article.........

" Trump would not be the first President to abstain from his salary.
John F. Kennedy was the wealthiest man ever sworn in as President of the United States. He had given his congressional salary to charity, and he maintained the practice once he got to the White House.

"Herbert Hoover, whose net worth was estimated to be nearly $4 million in 1913, divided most of his presidential salary between various charities. He used the rest to supplement the incomes of his staff."
