I sold an Iphone 8 on ebay a couple of weeks ago and advertised it with marking to the front and the back..... Phone sold and i shipped it next day guaranteed delivery... The buyer recieves the item and signed for it... 5 days later i get a return request from ebay, apperently the buyer claims the item was not as described!! i have sold a few mobiles on ebay and never had any come backs! ok,,, i give my statement to why i will not accept the item and sit and wait now for the outcome..... 9 or 10 days later i get a message from ebay saying they have decided the buyer should return the Iphone to me.... ok accepted... Today i recieve an unusual and scruffy package being delivered by royal mail.... i did not sign for the parcel... i knew the returned iphone was being delivered and i thought no way is this the item... i started to tear off the seloptape on the parcel and noticed a colour blue through the open bit of the box,,, i tearjust a little more and to my horror was a TUB of Vaseline (petrolium jelly)!! i opened the lid a little through the hole in the packaging and seems the tub is half empty.... i am fuming by this point so straight away i make a call to ebay and basically i have to appeal after 24hrs... i rang the local police and they give me a crime ref number to ring should i have no luck with ebay. I am peeed off to say the least and im 437 pound out of pocket 😞
anyone been through this and can offer some advice please.
seems this is an easy trick to get free items!!
the attached image is of the parcel. half opened!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Eby's policies s____ing its sellers. Sad state of affairs and as Ebay's profits continue to decline they feel they need to continue hurting sellers instead of correcting their problems. After all they just had a major firing of employeesd have 4rd world countries staff so can't continue to do that. Look for higher fees and stricter policies. I predict mandated free return shipping within a year. Ebay strives to be like Amazon which will NEVER be possible. It would have to have a person with a brain leading it to even begin to achieve that.
What these moves continue to do really is open the door for other selling venues to open up and grow so Ebay's sellers have somewhere else to sell from.

I have been having several issues with people stating Not as Described, etc. I have never in my entire time of selling on Ebay had as many issues as I have been having in recent months. Just out of curiosity, my husband and I thought we would check Youtube and sure enouogh...Videos on "How To Get Things Free On Ebay". Just about all the things they talked about we have experienced. I told a Customer Service Rep because I wanted to know what I am possibly doing wrong. They said I am doing everything that I possibly can. I told them about the videos and they had no idea. I hope there is a way we can stop these thieves. It is hurting all of us and in the long run will hurt Ebay's bottom line too.

So let me just point out that a buyer who is a buyer may scam one time and done. They don't need dozens of cell phones. What most of these people are are resellers. So they are sellers too. Should Ebay protect the seller who is selling or the seller who is buying?
Food for thought.

It's not just Ebay, other sites have their scammers also.

@harleyman49-us wrote:Just food for thought, but has anyone selling high end items ever consider having a notary public meet them at the post office, and have what you are sending notarized? It would seem this would be sufficient evidence of what was sent and would only be about a $35.00 expense to do so. Just thinking.
As I said earlier since this OP is in the UK, he could have had the Queen of England open this item with him and declare that is what was received and Ebay would not care. That is their newest policy that the buyer is always right and this is just a Cost of Doing Business on the Internet and that the Seller should be happy to take one for the team.
I keep waiting for Ebay to take one for the team where it is not reimbursing the seller a one time courtesy fee to stop the negative press about a situation. That is the only way a seller ever wins and from what I have seen and read it seems to becoming more and more popular in the UK as the media is willing to listen.
Heaven help Ebay in the US if the media here ever starts to listen as they will be bombarded with negative media and if the CEO thinks their stock price is low now, wait until that happens. Nobody will want to be assoiciated with Ebay or own the stock of a company that encourages theft and scamming of the customers that actually pay their fees.

I definitely understand the frustration and pain that fraudulent returns create for people. I also agree that simply brushing the problem off as simply the cost of doing business is ridiculous. At this point I really don't know what the best solution is. What I do know is this problem is as big if not bigger than any of the current glitches that Ebay may or may not be working on. The problem is creating an unhealthy environment of distrust between seller and buyer.
To often we are hearing the words scammer and thief being used to describe both buyer and seller. Ebay needs to put a brake on any current updates or changes they are currently working on, and address the huge problems they already have in front of them.
I truly hope that EBay is working on solutions to this problem as it appears to be snowballing out of control. While I understand the problem has not affected everyone yet, it is becoming detrimental to many good businesses.

Ebay just does not care - its a cost of doing business for the sellers and that is all they care about. If it does not affect their bottom line its not their problem.
What they do not realize is they are losing more and more business to other platforms because of their hands off policy and then cannot understand why they cannot grow while everybody else does.

Hello Christopher,
Laura here from eBay Customer Service.
I apologise for the circumstances within our phone call. These are not situations I take lightly so anything I can do, please fell free to reach out.
A few options you have going forward:
Speak to Citizen’s Advice/Small Claims Court
If you’ve been unable to come to a resolution with the buyer, you can choose to contact Citizen’s
Advice or the Small Claims court, depending on the amount of the item.
Small Claims or Money Claim on-line
Depending on the value of the transaction, you may want to take the matter further and file an
official complaint against the buyer.
www.moneyclaim.gov.uk 0300 123 1057 / 01604 619402
I know this isn’t the response you were hoping for, but I trust I've been able to explain our
position clearly.
Fraudulent return: Sol 5154 action fraud for us to continue on with the case.
And report buyer:

I hope the above information was useful.

Thanks mate.
quick update..
Ive reported this to action fraud last night and had a confirmation email earlier.
Thinking of going to the small claims court, not just to try and get the money back to catch this w&nker!!
Only noticed last night on paypal he has 2 names. Jasvir Kailey and the name i sent the Iphone to was Gerald Harris.
He has 1 negative feedback in 2015 and his last purchase prior to mine was january 2017.
Nothing on his feedback to suggest anything strange!
Thing is it took this w&nker 5 days to make a return request!! if it was me if i purchase something of high value and was not as described id get intouch with ebay straight away!! not 5 days later **bleep**. Yes he signed for the item the next day after he purchased it from myself.
What this guy has done is SOLD this iphone on and then makes a bull**bleep** item not as described return on ebay and then tells me on his messages if he was a scammer why is he telling me to block the phone and why did he get a refund if he didnt return the iphone..
ive just had another rant on ebay and because i have an appeal ongoing there's nothing else for ebay to say.
I just wanted to give them my 2p worth.
I cant sit back and let this guy get away with it as i feel no one is listening
