I have been a seller for 3 years.
Prior to selling used and broken electronics my feedback score was just under 98 percent. I recently had to take care of a dieng family member, had a bunch of inventory stolen, and the person left in charge of my account basically just stole my merch and dipped. I let ebay know about this, and tried to ship an item that had been sitting unshipped for over 3 weeks. (the timeframe in which I was caregiving was a total of just over a month and the item should have been shipped by the person in charge of my account) Now I normally never would have wanted anyone else in charge of shipping my products out, but this was at the behest of ebay representatives from a previous incident that involved me in the hospital with covid and a couple late shipments. So having been told to make sure I had someone to watch my account or to put myself as away, I decided that given the amount of time I thought my aunt had left, a week at most I was told, that having someone on the iterim watch my store would be an okay option.
None of this is me placing fault on ebay for anything. Advice is just advice, and we follow advice at our own discretion. That being said, fast forward to me returning home almost 40 days later to find my account in shambles and products supposedly shipped with tracking but never arriving, and the one item from nearly a month ago, waiting for shipping label purchase. I immediately tried to purchase a label, which ebays automated system claimed I could not do because of the address being incorrect. SO I contacted ebay let them know all of what happened and the shipping situation.
I was told to reach out to those affected and offer solutions, which I did. The following day my account was suspened for not uploading tracking info, which again, I could not do. I called again, and was told not to worry, the information was forwarded to the correct people.
Thats when eBay decides to suspend my account, letting me know not to worry about tracking,
now they need proof of identity, proof of address, proof every single purchase made for 3 years.
Now, had this originally been what was asked of me, sure I could understand them possibly thinking BROKEN, DAMAGED, and used products that were YEARSSSSS old would somehow have a receipt attatched to them. However until this year, my selling on ebay was like 5000 dollars and 9000. Not something they even send a tax form for. So why on earth would I or any person selling USED AND BROKEN ITEMS, have receipts from 3 years ago. Also how on earth would this only become a request after I let ebay know that the item they wanted tracking for was unshippable via the ebay site, due to buyer address. Also the buyer requested after waiting 2 weeks for the item tracking to upload, that EBAY cancel the purchase and refund him. EBAY DECLINED HIS REQUEST. Why? because I didnt respond, which to me is a reason to approve the request, or am I just crazy?
Ebay has never at anypoint told me what policy ive violated, nor how they think I would be able to buy broken electronics at a store... yet they will not release my money unless I upload a receipt for every item Ive ever sold on ebay? 3 years? I have not been audited, and they are not the irs. Yet I sent them the reciept i have from this year for the bulk electronics purchase. As well as my bank account statements from this year, showing the majority of the purchases from this year and still they keep my money, and ask for something I DO NOT HAVE. Maybe a psycho keeps three years of reciepts from his hobby selling second merchandise on ebay, but I do not keep receipts past my tax refund date. Am I missing something here?
Ive let it be known that after all this I would never use ebay regardless and to pay me the money they are legit stealing from me.. OVER 1k, and they are even just accepting every return request refunding the buyers and letting the keep the item and my money.
Is this legal? Again this all started over me not shipping a product that ebays site would not let me purchase a label for. None of this is okay. I have given them plenty of financial information.
SOMEBODY HELP ME. I called ebay for 3 weeks and nobody has helped me in any way come to a solution. They just tell me that I need to submit documents that they know I do not have. **bleep** is going on and how is this legal?

I of course will be reporting them to bbb and letting local newspapers know that ebay is accusing me of selling stolen merchandise because I was out of town taking care of my aunt who I watched pass away...
Other then that, any ideas on how to get my money they have? They cant possibly have any legal way to keep my money, having done nothing but provide platform for me to sell on. They did not purchase, or fix the products and spend the hours I did doing so. How do I get my money. I want nothing else.

They won't keep the money, it'll be turned over to your states unclaimed property and you can get it from them.
What do you think the BBB would do?

OK. I'm going to pick you apart now. Not with malice but just to give you my take on your situation.
You mentioned you had late shipments because of a previous hospital stay. That gave your buyers a "BBE" which is short for a "Bad Buyer Experience." If eBay gave you a break and didn't suspend you at that point you were lucky. You needed to "go and sin no more!"
But no, you had another crisis taking you away from your obligations as a seller. At that point you should have taken eBay's advice to put yourself away. (Put yourself on vacation mode or end your listings)
Reason being is you are solely responsible for the actions of the person you left in charge. Why would you dare take a chance to let another person screw with your account? If they dropped the ball you could be done with selling forever.
I see from your feedback you had problems other than late shipping.
Someone from eBay probably took a look at your listings at some point and saw you are selling lots of used electronics. HMMM, that could be a red flag you could be selling stolen electronics if you have not purchased a pallet of returned electronics. On eBay they don't have to prove you are guilty. You have to prove you are innocent.
You might as well forget about seeing your funds for awhile. I believe they will hold the $ for 6 months to make sure any chargebacks come from your funds and not theirs. Then as Ken mentioned they will be turned over to unclaimed funds in your state's Treasury dept. and you can claim them there.

I'm sorry about your dying family member but you are running a business, whether you consider it as "business" or "hobby" and you're expected to be able to follow through on your obligations.
That you misjudged the character, integrity and responsibility of the person you put in charge is on you. You need to vet people more carefully and verify that they know what they're doing and will do it.

Reaching out to your buyers to (try to) explain what happened is the right thing to do. It's unlikely it will make them happy but those people sent you money, didn't get what they paid for and were forced to file disputes.

You SHOULD save receipts. You're lucky ebay is only asking for 3 years because although you haven't been audited, the IRS can audit for 6 years and if they suspect fraud, they can go back further!
(I guess I'm a psycho because I save receipts and file them with that year's tax return. I've never been asked for them but if I am asked, I have them.)
"his hobby selling second merchandise on ebay" --- you may consider it a hobby but it's a business. And so you know, hobby sellers cannot deduct their expenses from their income and have to claim their entire amount of sales, whereas business sellers can deduct expenses.

We can't help you. We aren't ebay and don't have access to your account.
However this is a case in which I think your account is toast. You made multiple mistakes and ebay doesn't want sellers who make so many mistakes and don't fix them.
