20 years folks. Im surprised I have a hair left in my head or a spoon that hasnt been used to gouge out my own eyeballs.

 

Very simple. Just wanted to downgrade my store subscription from premium to basic as im no longer listing even 200 listings instead of the 1000 the premium store gets free. Well all options to downgrade, upgrade, cancel or otherwise were grayed out due to an error on the page saying "Invalid payment method". Well my credit card is in perfect standing and has been since Ive owned it. I called my bank to confirm. The first customer service agent suggested for me to reenter my same card and I got the good ole "Double check your card number" error." The second customer service agent pulled my time tested ebay favorite answer by manually removing my card and then telling me to reenter it now..........to which I got the exact same error. When she immediately seemed confused she decided to try the "well i will personally call you back in 24 hours to make sure we get it fixed, the system just needs time." Its a good thing I knew this well trained lie upfront for holding my breath would have been catastrophic. Of course she never called. Imagine my surprise.....yawn.....next. So 30 hours later I tried a 3rd time. This young lady helped tremendously by saying she called her technical team and they would.........................suspenseful pause.........................call me back in 24 hours. Now 3 days later the 4th rep just told me my card was declined as far back as 3 days ago.................even though Im using to make purchases daily at the store etc and even though my bank says my accounts are all in perfect standing and working order. Still on hold while he "tries something else". Betting countless dollars here that they will offer to call me back tomorrow.

 

Im on my last leg here folks. I went from just wanting to lower my store subscription to now I have no payment source instead of the one that was working just fine. Im sure ebay will not care that it was their fault when they attempt to collect my fees and sub with no payment source. I do not keep money in paypal already because I have lost trust in ebay.

 

Anyone have a work around for this or a fix to this several year old "glitch"?

Sorry for your troubles.  I am not sure what path you took?  The only way I know to change store subscriptions is through the seller account tab then on left side bar using the subscription tab and making the change that way.

 

If this is the same path I would probably call eBay to have them help you make the change.

Is it possible that you've recently been issued a new card and the expiration date and 3 digit # have changed?

Yeah the subscription change screen had every link greyed out saying "invalid payment source." You could not cancel, subscribe, change or anything. The only available working link from that screen was "change payment source"

That is what prompted the first CS call. To which I was told to just readd it..........which got me the double check card number error. Which led to the 2nd call that ended in the CS rep manually removing my card, which has now led to ebay saying my card is declined entirely............even though the card is working perfectly.

My guess is they will require a new card to which Im just not going to do. Sick to death of having to jump through hoops because they wont pay for real customer service or fix their **bleep** glitches. I will never give them access to my bank account which is what they probably are after.

It is not possible. I called my bank rep and they said im a golden goose as far as accounts go. Expiration is 1.5 years from now and the card has been on file and working perfectly since I updated it a couple years ago. Its working perfectly now for every other thing I have used it for including buying my kids lunch a couple hours ago.

Ok Update! So 4th ebay seller rep says after 1.5 hours on the phone that the other ebay seller rep should have never canceled my card and that is likely why ebay is now showing it declined. He also said it was "terrible" how my last 2 ebay reps promised to call me back the next day and failed to do so.................to which he then promised..............to call me back tomorrow.

 

This has like a bad nightmare. But it probably EXACTLY what I needed to help make my decision to get the heck out of here. 20 years and now I can no longer list another item unless I the seller who did nothing wrong jumps through more hoops. Why not just add another card you ask? I have a business card and a personal card. This is business. I would have to order another one which takes 7 days to get in the mail. I would then have to update 14 other venues, platforms, wholesale accounts with a new card.

 

Not jumping through another hoop for these people. If not fixed by ebay by saturday morning Im out. Simple as that.

lol, they may have suspended the ability of people with stores to change store sizes, calling it a glitch, in prep for the GTC announcement. Maybe they thought they would just bolt the store size door closed for a few weeks - long enough for people to calm down...lol.… I believe they have become accustomed to people closing stores and shrinking stores with every seller update...LMBO

Outside of that....can't think of a single reason it wouldn't work.

Hi @cashvaluerecovery2011, I'm going to get this reported for investigation as I can't see an issue that would prevent you from adding your credit card as the Automatic Payment Method on file (thus allowing you to downgrade your store). In the meantime, I have had other sellers who have gone to www.eBay.ca and were able to add a payment method there without issue, which would replicate on www.eBay.com. I know the workaround sounds silly, and I only suggest it because other sellers have found this solves the problem they are running into (or at least lets them get around the problem).

 

Keep me posted if anything changes and with the result of trying the www.eBay.ca workaround. I'm happy to work with you and get this resolved and ensure that any fees that come about due to the trouble you are having are appropriately credited.

Thank you so much for contacting me. Having a possible workaround is already massively better than anything 5 hours with reps from ebay have attempted. That being said you asked for an update. The young lady who stood me up on the call back finally called back tonight. After all the extra time spent figuring out the problem and conversations with her supervisors she came to the conclusion that..............wait for it.................my address might be wrong. When I explained that the address was perfect before you removed my card and clearly has nothing to do with this glitch she talked me into wasting my time trying it. Of course it changed nothing. She then thought possibly trying a different browser or clearing my cookies might help. As though that might work today when it did not work the last 3.

As far as your work around. That is also a no go. Tried it from both firefox and chrome though we already know that has nothing to do with it. I was quite concerned though when she kept pressuring me to just use paypal or my bank account to be my funding source. Its now my belief that this was the point all along. Strait access to bank account or paypal and pull an Etsy move on me lol. Not happening.

Would love to hear another idea. Im yours until saturday then its a quick divorce after 20 years and put my old tush back on the market.

Trinton---Another 24 hours gone and crickets are chirping away. The 2 promised calls I was suppose to receive from an ebay supervisor and a technical supervisor were once again not received. I also havent heard back from you after updating you about the work around not working........or if your investigation report did anything at all.

I am completely at ebays mercy which is one of the last places I want to be. My payment source was fine and still is. Ebay rep removes it to fix a problem and causes more problems. Ive been given 6 promises all broken. What do I do next?

I'll take a stab in the dark. 

 

Do you have enough in PayPal to cover closing your store? Is your card on file not a type that would be able to retrieve the money? Like one that you add money on? 

 

Maybe change payment method.

Nice stab Siayan. That is basically Ebay CS way of fixing things to.......in the dark. My credit card was on file in perfect standing being charged monthly for a couple years with 1.5 years left on expiration. I just wanted to lower my subscription but got a invalid payment source error. CS suggested updating the info to which I received a "double check card number" error. So CS then manually removed the card to which they then told me that was against policy. Now I can not add the card back due to the double check card number error.

Without a valid payment source I can not lower my store subscription, raise my store subscription, or cancel/close my store subscription. I also can not list another item. This credit card is working perfectly on the 14 other venues, platforms, and wholesale accounts I have active. I have perfect credit and pay all my credit cards off entirely every month. My bank has said this account and my card is in perfect standing and working as intended.

I have now had 2 CS people hard selling me on making paypal or my bank account my automatic payment source. As though I want these people to have access to other funds lol. Could you imagine what it might be like trying to get your money back if they decided to over charge. Its not like they have overcharged me a couple dozen times over 20 years already.
