No Views? Over 7 Days? How Is This Possible?

I had 3 listings end last night (under my selling ID).  Two had NO views, and one had 7.  How can this be?  I know the view counts were working, because the bots viewed each item when launched and I checked them twice.  I've been successfully selling here since 1999 and have NEVER had no views before.

I have three doing the same, one has watchers, but appartenly no views. Guessing it is some kind of glitch

Thanks for your reply, leaky.  I don't know...I personally checked my listings twice while they were active, and each time the view count increased.  So it was working for me.

I just can't understand how this can happen, given the huge volume of Ebay buyers and sellers.  And no one, not ONE person, looked at two of my listings.  It doesn't make sense.

I've had listings sold - with 0 views - not even a bot count. Again a glitch that is counter productive as a seller can not see that they may need to change a listing in order to bring buyers to it!

I appreciate your reply, tunic, but the view count on my listings WAS working.  Is it possible it was working for me, but not working when another person viewed one of my listings?

And I wonder if the lack of views is affecting my placement, too.

I doubt it. I've seen view counts temporarily drop to zero, then magically restore themselves some time later.

While I don't have inside knowledge of how the pages work here specifically, I can tell you from similar experience in our own software that when you bring up the My eBay page or the listing page or whichever one you're looking at that shows the view count, the data has to be assembled as fast as possible. If the view count for the item isn't retrievable at that instant (for whatever reason: network traffic, server outage, whatever), a zero is shoved in instead, and the rest of the data gathering goes on.

In other words, a missing View Count isn't considered serious enough for the system to either wait around for it or to return an error message; the system will plow ahead and assemble the page without it. It'll probably show up next time.

P.S. I notice that a couple of my own listings are showing zero views at this moment as well. One of those has 14 watchers and a bid already, so I'm sure things will work out anyway. Smiley Wink

Thanks for your response, a_c.  Nothing showed up for 7 days.

Okay.  Thanks, everyone.  The consensus seems to be that this is just a glitch and I shouldn't worry about the fact that my 2 listings had no views and (obviously) didn't sell.

Not encouraging, no, but my point is that a count of zero doesn't necessarily mean that nobody saw it. Heck, if you look at your own listing yourself, that will increase the count too... if the counter is working.

As of right now, four of my current listings are showing zero views, including one that has no fewer than 27 bids. You're welcome to view any of my listings, find one with a counter of zero (e.g. 332669215686), and note that because you're viewing it, it should at least be showing 00001, but it isn't.

Also feel free to post the listing number for either of your ended listings that showed no views, and we should be able to nudge the number upward by viewing it ourselves. It will probably stay at zero right now, even though you will know that we viewed it.

In short, I wouldn't worry about the Views counter, nor would I regard it as accurate when it clearly is not.

Something strange seems to be going on.  I will typically relist an unsold item that had a high number of views hoping that it will bring more people to my other items.  When I relist that item next time it might get low or no views.  In the past, whether an item sold or not, it had double digit views.  Now I see a lot of 0, 1, 2 views.  Good luck to all.

Just a quick followup here... Previously I wrote:

I looked again just a minute ago, and all my listings are now showing their view counts again.

No views, just two dashes.  Since two days, I think.

It's a glitch.  Seller have been reporting this recently on this Board.

ETA for repair is July 3.
