New seller; cancelation question.

Hello. I'm new to eBay selling, and the buyer is asking to cancel on my first sale. They haven't paid, and I haven't shipped. My question is, do I still have to pay listing fees on a "sold" item if they want to cancel? They say they bid by mistake, yet having bought on eBay for years, I'm not sure how that would happen. Thanks!

@sitter.b-39  Go ahead and cancel the order - you will not be charged any fees, and it's better to do that than deal with an angry buyer. No harm, no foul. Be sure to select "Buyer requested cancellation".

Better off to just cancel and move on.  And like Chapeau said above, an angry buyer won't help you.  You are not obligated to cancel, but its a lot better than trying to ship anyway and giving you a headache later.

Every time a buyer cancels their order and they haven't paid, I have always canceled.  To date, I have not had a cancel request happen after a payment.

If they haven't paid they probably won't and you don't have to worry about shipping. If they have not paid the transaction is not complete so the only fees you will be charge is the $.30. You can either cancel now as buyer requested or let it auto-cancel after 4 days for non-payment if you have your account setup that way. When I get a cancel request, which is seldom, I often don't even see the request before the auto-cancel handles it.

As you are a new seller you may also want to review your return policy which is currently "seller does not accept returns" and fully understand that it does not equate to no refunds.

You may want to add this buyer to your BBL.

I canceled an order the other day.

A few minutes after I had paid, I realized I didn't need the item for my purpose after all, and the seller was kind enough to refund me.

I think it's just good business to treat customers the way you would want to be treated.

As noted in the other posts, you will not be charged a final value fee if you cancel the transaction.

However, if you paid any listing fees, such as fees for upgrades like Reserve or subtitle, those are not refundable and you'll have to pay for those whether or not the transaction goes through.  You'd have to pay for those even if you had an auction that didn't get any bids.
