If the message you received doesn't have eBay's logo or isn't in the folder marked "from eBay" or "unread from eBay" it isn't from eBay

Received something similar from a buyer of all people stating they were from eBay.  Thought it was strange but I thought it made some sense because I made some recent payment changes on my account. It didn't sit right with me and I did a little bit of research and, you're right, a scammer deal.  Thanks for posting!

Good grief. That reads like it was written by a scammer who didn't even know how eBay works.

Boy that sure is something alright, notice that those scammers put a tiny circle next to the word ebay ( is that supposed to be the copyright ©️ symbol??)

Did you send this to trust & safety at ebay ( fraud division)?

They seem to think so, yes. 😉 It appears to actually be a Unicode "bullseye" glyph (U+0298), which is weird, because you have to do a ton of digging to even find that thing in the first place, whereas most any commonly used font has the real Copyright symbol available, regardless of your font choice: it's ASCII 169. You can type it in directly using the keyboard sequence Alt+0169. (Hold down your Alt key as you type 0169 on your side keypad, and the "©" will appear as soon as you release the Alt key.)

New scam attempt, asking via eBay messages a seller pass banking details onto fraudsters

Hi,

Yes, I immediately contacted eBay & to give them credit, (& I didn't believe they would do it because they rarely if ever do what they promise they will do), they closed the account.

What horrified me was just how difficult it was for me to report it, in the past there was actually a dedicated link to report scams, hacking or fraud, I have called on them in the past, but now there is no way to do so, it took me half an hour just to manage to wangle getting in touch with a support agent, & believe me, I know my way around the eBay support system.

I almost gave up, but thought it too important

Hi,

Very similar, but my message was regards an item I had "sold", not asking me to confirm my account, but telling me the payment had not gone through thanks to an eBay glitch, that I had to take steps via the link to receive the payment.

Thank the Gods I have had plenty of experience dealing with scammers & thieves, but can imagine that countless naive or new sellers could have been led into doing exactly what the scammers wanted ....
