New return policy statement - what do you all think?

"In their attempt to keep-up with and out-due Amazon, Ebay has decided to try and micro-manage *Top Rated Sellers* business policies regarding returns. We refuse to allow them to do this to us. Unfortunately, our listing will no longer display the TRS+ logo because of it, (BUT YOU WILL STILL SEE IT ON OUR FEEDBACK PAGE). Additionally, since NOTHING in life is free despite what ebay believes, we will no longer offer 'as described' returns. ALL SALES ARE NOW FINAL. Per ebay policy and as our great track record suggests, you will receive the item you bought or your money back."

I wouldn’t put terms in my listings that are negative in bent. If i felt i needed to alter my TOS, i would do it without explanation. If a buyer inquired, then i might say the cost of doing business has risen. Buyers don’t want to listen to my irritation and anger towards the platform. They don’t like wading through long, drawn out diatribes. Not saying this paragraph you posted does that, but it is leaning in that direction.

That paints you as a desperate seller, and scammers love the smell of desperation.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

I understand your frustration, but I think it's a huge mistake to put a long rant in your listings like that.

Your listings should stick to the facts about the item you are selling and perhaps a brief statement about the service you offer; nothing more, nothing less.

Thanks for the pointers. We have a lot of repeat customers. Maybe I'll just hang on to this in case one of them decides to ask. As for the reply about being desperate - far from it. This is more a matter of principle to me....

If so, I'd recommend formatting it properly. I understand you put words and sentences all in caps for the purpose of emphasis, but on a business level if you were to send it to a customer formatted that way it comes off as unprofessional. Just my opinion.

Best of luck!

I definately wouldn't name-drop other sites in the TOS. It's irrelevant, and to state ebay's attempted out-doing of another specific entity sounds... political.

Just a comment on ebay's revised Return Goods options:  Ebay eliminated the 14-day returns and eliminated the restocking fee.  I offer some commodity goods which have a limited selling season, so a 30-day return with no restocking penalty is no go.  Also, it costs me time to verify product integrity and it costs me $5.50 per pallet to restock, (and that fee I am charged and should pass along to the Buyer for the restocking is reasonable).  So guess what?  I will no longer offer the Return Goods option.

FYI regarding shipping by LTL carrier:  Costs quoted by CH Robinson/ Freight Quote can be easily beaten, often by a third or more.  Quotes are much less competitive than they were just three years ago, and I have to wonder if ebay receives a referral fee from them.  And to think ebay charges 10% on top of these inflated quotes and another 3+% for Paypal on products that often cost more to ship than what they sell for before figuring in the shipping costs.

So ebay thinks this is enhancing the Buyer's experience?
