New cancel function for unpaid items - Announcement

Read the announcement.  My question is - does eBay do anything to the buyer's account when they don't pay?  Is it a strike on the account -- three strikes and you're out kinda deal, or what?  What's to prevent a buyer from bidding and not paying on multiple auctions?  Account banned from eBay ??   Please enlighten us..

Yes. Non paying buyers still get unpaid item strikes, as before. Nothing has changed in that regard. NPBs can have various sanctions imposed, up to and including account suspension. And sellers can still use their Blocked Buyer List to block anyone with 2 or more strikes. This information can be found in the FAQ section of the full announcement in the Spring 2021 Seller Update.

There is no info I can find, however, on official policy regarding how many unpaid item strikes a buyer can have before ebay actually takes action.  I find the language on the new policy unclear - if I cancel the order because the buyer didn't pay under the new system, as opposed to opening an unpaid item case, does it still count against the buyer?  How does it actually affect their account?  How many other sellers can they screw over and still keep their account?  It would be nice if ebay made this more transparent, as I feel like it would gain back a little seller trust.

It certainly feels like ebay gives these time wasters far too much leeway.  Their TOS used to contain MUCH stronger language about a purchase being a legally binding contract etc.  I block anyone who buys and doesn't pay but there are just too many of these jerks out there.  I will never understand why they choose to click purchase if they have no intention of actually paying for & buying the item.  It just costs me time to wait to cancel and relist and takes away from real buyers being able to see my item for sale.  So very frustrating.

They will not advise as it is 'confidential' - but I do agree, very lenient on non paying buyers and bid retractors alike.

Sellers negs are there for all to see, why not the NPB strikes against buyers? But eBay is a buyer favoured platform, make no mistake about that.
