New Listings, how long?

Curious as to how long does it take for a new listing to show up in search? Used to be that when you listed a new item and posted it, it would show up in the search pretty much soon afterwards. I was told by someone it now takes anywhere from 24 hrs. or longer for it to show up, or before you see the item listed. Is that true? and if so, what's up with that and why has it changed?

When ever I list something it shows up 5-10 minutes later.

However I understand it CAN take up  to 24 hours to show up.

@scuby109,

It has always been possible that a listing could take up to 24 hours to be indexed, for more than 22 years.

Most items are indexed within a few minutes, but it can still take up to 24 hours. Anecdotally, some sellers may be seeing slightly longer times.

Thanks...will have to wait and see. Never have had something like this happen before in the 20+ years I've been on here. Time will tell.

What @lacemaker3  said is correct.   In particular if it's certain high level & or highly faked brands, those can take longer than the run-of-the-mill listings.

@scuby109,

By the way, if you are waiting for an item to be indexed, you need to leave it alone and don't revise it at all. Revising the listing makes the indexing start over.

If you have some new listings that haven't indexed yet, would you please share the item number(s), so that I can see if I can find it.

It will show up within 10 minutes or so but what I've noticed(with mens pre-owned clothing anyway) is that my listings really start to pick up traction after about 2 days or so. Now if I list something that is very sought after or has a really high sell thru rate it will immediately get traction. I've sold items the same day I've listed them and I've sold items 6 months after listings them. Just gotta stay patient and move forward. At the end of the day, it's all whether or not the buyer wants to click that buy button and follow thru with it.

since when did all this "indexing" start? Not happy with having to wait 24 or more hrs. to see my item in search and for people to look at it. The way things keep changing on here what seems to be everytime you blink, is getting ridiculous....but what can you do? It's either put up with the "new rules" or not. Ebay was better before all these updates.

It's been taking mine up to 24 hours.  They are usually showing up by then.

That listing is searchable now, and it's only been a few hours.

Items have always had to be indexed. It is usually very quick, and only occasionally takes longer. Most of the time you won't notice it.

A (potentially) easy way to check if it has been indexed is to see if it is on your profile/store/items for sale. That way you dont have to worry if you did the search wrong or mistyped or whatever. You can also see all at once what has been indexed and what has not. So much of the 24hr delay is discussed around NEW sellers with no selling history. Rarely does it happen with experienced sellers with a track record.

I have noted some high value items can take longer, or as suggested maybe some highly faked items. Indexing is a time for ebay to review if need be, and of course, a more scrupulous review would be done if a red flag is raised (high value / highly faked).

Yes. It'll shows after 24hours. But sometimes it takes up to 48h. This is only for 1st listing.
